I leaned my head against the window, my eyes blank. I was lost in thought as the car rambled along the road.

Where the hell am I supposed to go?

"Why don't you go back to my apartment," Liv suggested. "I think you need a safe place to rest right now."

"You're right." I had no choice but to go to Liv's house for a while.

Liv's foot was on the accelerator as the car raced down the street toward the orange glow of the sunset. The hot wind that poured in through the car window blew straight in my face, and my mood was as low as it could get. My mind was as blank as a paste. I can't even think straight.

I kept cursing in my heart, trying to get my sanity back in this way. But it only makes me feel worse.

The glass windows reflected the sunset, and Frade's pale face appeared in the sky, floating with the clouds. His face turned into a silver mask.

Daley, F.ucking Daley.

Soon Liv was driving back to her apartment, and I followed her with my head down. When we passed the apartment, the security guard was still sitting in his seat. This time he just looked down at his newspaper and didn't have time to look at us. As I entered the elevator, I noticed the news of the day scrolling on the electronic screen. Before the end of the news, there was a break from the police's wanted list.

My picture popped up on the wanted list. I saw the words"Wanted" written in my picture. So I quickly turned my face away.

Then Liv noticed the information on the electronic screen. She purposely covered my body so that I wouldn't be recognized. Fortunately, people in elevators don't have time to think about what's on the screen. A young couple were talking with their heads down, while a woman in glasses and a business suit kept her eyes on her mobile phone.

Finally, the elevator stopped on the floor where Liv's apartment was, and as soon as the doors opened, I quickly followed her out of the elevator. Liv took the keys out of her bag and looked around warily as she opened the door. After making sure there was no one suspicious in the hallway, she flung open the door and I slid into her house like an eel.

The sensor lights in the apartment turn on automatically, and the orange light illuminates the originally dark room. I was relieved. Liv throws her purse on the couch. She opens the fridge and pulls out two cold beers.

"God, I was so nervous," Liv said, pulling the ring off the can with her finger. "I was so worried someone would recognize you."

"I'm sorry I got you into trouble." I took a sip of my cold beer and thought for a moment.

"Do you still have the flash drive we found in Jeff's safe?" I asked.

"I've been keeping it. Do you want it?"

"No, you keep it safe for me. I'll come back when I need it!" I said.

"I don't know what you mean?" Liv asked. "You're leaving?"

"I think I should get out of here as soon as possible," I said, in order not to cause Liv any trouble.

"No! I never thought you were a trouble." Liv put down her beer. "We're friends. We help each other."

"But you've done enough for me," I said. "Now I'm wanted by the police. If the police find us together, you'll be in trouble. I don't think I'll stay here tonight."

"Eva, I'll say it again. Don't push me away again." Liv stared at me for a moment. "You know what? I was a coward until Jeff died. I endured his betrayal and abuse. I thought I would be completely relieved when he died. But the truth is that I just got away with it. Whenever I dream of him at night, I still feel afraid. It was you, you showed me what courage and resistance was. Sometimes I think if I were as brave as you, I wouldn't have let Jeff leave so many scars on me."

Liv's words silenced me. I didn't know how to tell her that I had been so stupid that I had been set up by my husband and sister and that I had even lost my child. In my previous life, I lost my life because I was too cowardly to stand up to my father. It was only after I died that I learned what it was to be brave and to fight back.

But I can't say these things to her. I can only tell her that I cannot implicate her. I don't want her to be hurt like Frade. After all, she's my only friend.

"I don't want to ruin your peaceful life, Liv. Thank you for everything you've done for me. As your friend, I hope you live well. You shouldn't get involved in my trouble. "I drank the last drop of wine in the jar, "I should go."

"Eva Green," Liv said, blocking my way, "I won't let you go tonight. Listen, I have a plan. I have an old house in the Miami countryside. You can hole up there for a while. The place is so remote that I don't think the police will find you there. When I find a coyote who makes fake passports. . . "

"Liv!" I interrupted. "This is my business. Please stay out of it. Remember, you haven't seen me today!"

"Damn it!" Liv said angrily. "Do you have any idea how worried I was when I found out that you were missing? Do you have any idea that you're not only my friend, you're also my family?"

The word family is like a long-lost dew sprinkled on my already dry heart. I do not know what the love of family is, because my family has brought me only unforgettable pain. But the people who give me love and care are the people who have nothing to do with me.

It's Liv and Frade.

Just then there was a knock at the door. I vaguely heard a man's voice outside the door.

"This is the police. Please open the door!"

Liv and I looked at each other immediately, and we both knew in our hearts what had happened. There must be a lot of police officers outside with pistols ready to arrest me. Who the hell called the police? The security guard downstairs, or the other guy in the elevator?

"Come with me." Liv took my hand and went to the balcony of the apartment, and the knocking behind her became louder and louder. I'm sure it won't be long before the police break down the door.

"Go down the survival ladder, quick!" Liv said, turning to close the balcony door. She chose to face the police herself.

There's no time. I have to get out of here. If the police find me with her, we're all dead.

The night covered my body. My body was pressed against the cold exterior wall, and my feet carefully moved along the projecting edge of the wall, which was only the width of one foot. It takes two balconies to reach the survival ladder. The dark room was empty when I crossed the first balcony. When I passed the second balcony, an old man with white hair who was watching TV turned his head to look at me, then pretended to continue watching TV as if nothing had happened.

When I finally reached the ladder, I ran down as fast as I could. The wind rustled in my ears, and my legs finally stepped on the solid ground. It was a dark alley, surrounded only by a few trash cans.

I hid in the darkness, staring into the light ahead. I saw two police cars with flashing lights not far away, and soon several officers walked by, with Liv in the middle.

They grabbed Liv and handcuffed her. What a bunch of f.ucking cops!

And I had to watch the police take Liv away, and there was nothing I could do about it. What are the cops gonna do with Liv? Is she in danger?

Looking at the police car going away, I hesitated whether to catch up.
