"I'm sorry, honey," Daley whispered. "It seems that we have to change our plan."

"What happened?" I asked.

"My grandma fainted at home and now she is in the hospital. I have to go back."

"Oh, poor Vickie." I put my hand on my chest. "How is she?"

"The doctor says she's in critical condition and needs immediate surgery."

"Then we must hurry back."

"Yes, I have to be prepared, just in case something happens to my grandma, " Daley said.

"I think what you should be concerned about right now is Vickie's health," I reminded him. "Not the power and money."

"Just in case," he said flatly.

Then he asked the flight attendant to inform the captain about the need to change the flight route. Half an hour later, the plane took off for Manhattan.

When we got off the plane, a black Mercedes vehicle was waiting for us on the tarmac. It took us straight to Santa Maria Hospital.

When we arrived at the hospital, Frade and Mia were waiting outside the room. Daley held my hand and walked towards them.

Frade's eyes lingered on my wedding ring for half a second, and Mia noticed it too. Before one of them could speak, Daley raised my hand and said to Frade.

"Eva and I are married. I'm sorry I didn't invite you to my wedding. But I guess that wasn't necessary."

"It's not too late to tell me now," Frade sneered. "As your brother, I'll still get you a wedding present."

"Oh, Eva." Mia hugged me gently. "Happy Wedding, my sister."

"Thank you! You're getting married soon, aren't you?" I glanced at Frade, but he gave me a startled look.

"Is not the time to talk about marriage now. After all, Vickie is in a coma," Mia said as she let go of my hand and moved closer to Frade.

"The doctor said Vickie just had surgery, but she's still in critical condition," Mia said. "I'll be praying for her outside the ward."

"You are so kind," I said.

"You don't have to bother. I'll get the details from the doctor," Daley said, walking toward the doctor's office with his cold attitude toward Mia.

Soon after, he came back and whispered to me, "The doctor said that if Vickie gets through tonight, there's a good chance she'll recover, but if she doesn't, she may never wake up."

"I have to stay here tonight. If you're tired, I'll have someone take you home to rest."

"No, I want to stay here with you."

"I have to contact my men to get ready," he said, glancing at Frade not far away, his eyes as cold as a sword.

I saw Frade at the other end of the corridor making a phone call. Just as he was finishing one call, another came in. He was whispering, and I couldn't hear what he was saying. Mia stood outside the door and prayed over and over again.

"Will you guys go to war?" I looked at Daley nervously. "I mean, if something happens to Vickie, are you going to fight each other over the inheritance?"

"100 percent," Daley said firmly, "But this time I won't lose. Because I have you."

"Maybe the situation won't be so bad," I told him. "I'm sure Vickie will get through the dangerous period safely."

"You never know."

"Let me get you some coffee." I didn't want to talk about his fight with Frade. I wanted Vickie to get through it, or else the consequences would be unforeseeable.
