"Welcome to the Logan family, Sarah," said Vickie, looking at Sarah with satisfaction.
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Logan," said Sarah, who went to Vickie and kissed her on the cheek. "My father told me about you. He said you were the greatest woman in the Logan family."
"Your father was exaggerating," Vickie said with a smile. "I remember holding him when he was born. Is he all right now?"
"He's fine. Thank you for your concern."
When Sarah looked at Daley, she was startled by the scar on his face. She's not used to Daley without a mask.
"You know my grandson Arthur," Vickie said, looking at me. "This is his fiancee, Eva."
"We've met before," Sarah said with an evil smile. "On a yacht."
"What yacht?" Frade stared at Sarah, who was intrigued by the word yacht. He's trying to remember something.
Sarah didn't know about Frade's memory loss and was about to speak when Daley spoke first.
"It's time for dinner," Daley said coldly.
"Kohl, get ready to serve," Vickie ordered her servant.
Soon the footmen brought the delicious dishes. It's all Italian. The cooked food was placed on delicate plates and candles were lit on the high-end candlesticks on the table. Frade and Sarah were sitting across from me, and I had no appetite. It's not that I don't like Italian food, but I'm just worried that Sarah will expose the fact that I used to be with Frade. I feel uneasy.
Fortunately, everyone agreed to remain silent during the meal. Maybe it's part of the family tradition. After we finished our dessert, Vickie wiped the grease from the corner of her mouth with a napkin.
"I'm glad we're having dinner. It's been a long time since I've had anyone to have dinner with." Vickie shot Frade and Daley a reproachful glance, "Now according to the family tradition, the men stay in the room and the women wash the dishes."
Sarah's face flashed with displeasure when she heard this. Frade glanced at her sideways, and she smiled submissively. Daley remained silent. Frade's engagement to Sarah is bound to have an impact on his struggle for power in the family.
"When you get married, you need to learn how to cook. Because women are responsible for cooking at every family dinner." Vickie seemed to be giving some kind of command.
Sarah nodded. "I'm looking forward to learning about Italian food. It'll be fun."
Vickie ignored her and pressed the special bell on her desk that was used to summon the servants. Soon a few footmen came into the dining-room and put the used plates and knives and forks into a silver cart.
"All right, girls. Go with them," Vickie said.
Sarah and I got up and followed the footmen, and soon we were in the kitchen. The footman, Kohl, showed us how to use rags and detergent to wash the dishes, and put them in the cupboard. He spoke in such detail as if we were kids washing dishes for the first time. It was just a normal job, but Sarah immediately revealed her displeasure.
"I don't want to do this kind of dirty work," Sarah said, throwing a wet rag into the sink after the footmen had left the kitchen. The splashing water spilled on my face.
"You want trouble?" I put the half-wiped plate in the sink and took off my plastic gloves.
She did it on purpose, I know.
"You have a way with men. I'm surprised," Sarah said as he approached me. The strong perfume she wears made me crinkle my nose.
"I'm not playing anyone." I looked at her warily. A snake would only approach a person when it was about to attack.
"Frade has amnesia. You should be glad about that," I decided to tell her. "You'd better not remind him of your dirty past. If he knows you slept with Ron, he might not marry you."
The shock on Sarah's face turned to anger. It looks like she was having an affair with Ron, maybe something else. For a woman like her who likes to hook up with men, she may have slept with more men than she can count.
"You had an affair with him, too. I remember you being given to Frade on the yacht."
Sarah smiled insidiously. "I think Arthur will be very interested in your past."
"Then congratulations, and Frade will remember all the good times we had together. I have a way to make him fall in love with me again," I whispered deliberately. "So do you think he'll ever marry you?"
Sarah's face turned white with anger. She didn't know what to say. So I warned her.
"If you want to marry Frade, you should learn to shut up."
"You're such a b.itch," Sarah said, and before she could finish her words, she was waving her hand in my face. I had expected her to attack me, so I grabbed her wrist just in time.
"Not only do you have to learn to shut up, but you also have to learn some manners," I said, pushing her back hard. As she was wearing high heels, she lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Then a footman came. He saw Sarah fall to the ground and immediately came to help her up. But Sarah pushed him away and yelled at him.
"Get your hands off me."
The footman immediately withdrew his hands from Sarah, but when he saw Sarah grab a washing dish and throw it at me, he had to stand between us. He said hastily.
"Mrs. Logan would like you ladies to meet her in the living room."
At that, Sarah put her plate back on the table. She gave me a hard look and turned to leave. I rolled my eyes. We haven't liked each other for a long time. I'll never forget that she sent her dog to molest me. There's no need to be soft on a snake.
I went into the living room and saw Sarah sitting next to Frade with an angry face. She saw me coming in and whispered something to Frade. I guess it wasn't a compliment or anything. Frade frowned as he listened. He looked at me for a moment, then gave Sarah an impatient look.
Sometimes a woman's complaint will only turn a man off.
That's when Daley and Vickie came into the living room. The servant, Kohl, pushed Vickie's wheelchair into the middle of the living room, and Daley came and sat beside me. We're still facing Frade and Sarah. Vickie was now a shield between her two grandchildren.
"My grandchildren and I agreed that you should have the engagement ceremony first, on the first weekend in two months," Vickie said, glancing at Sarah and me, "Girls, you can go home and talk to your parents, but I don't think they will object."
"My father will be very happy to hear that," Sarah said, pretending to be a good lady when she faced Vickie.
Vickie smiled with satisfaction. At Vickie's request, everyone must stay at the manor tonight. She had the footman open a Romance Conti for us to taste, and later, Vickie said she was tired and needed to rest. So the footman took her back to her room.
Soon Daley and I were back in the bedroom. When I got out of the shower and saw Daley sitting on the sofa smoking, his face was still as inscrutable as ever without his mask.
"Is everything all right?" I asked, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"Terrible!" He said and put out his cigarette.
