I hurried back to the hospital, and when I came to the hospital gate, there were several cars parked outside the parking lot. A group of tall men surrounding these cars with grim faces. They kept glancing warily at passers-by entering and leaving the hospital. I saw Mark in the crowd, whispering to another man. He didn't even notice me as I sped past him.
My heart suddenly rose to my throat. It seemed that both Daley and Frade were ready for the fight. If Vickie doesn't wake up tonight, the war between them will blow out, and the consequences will be unimaginable.
No, Vickie. You have to get through this. I prayed in my heart.
As I entered the hospital, Daley was on the phone at the other end of the hall. He looked busy, too. In order not to disturb him, I walked straight to the door of the ward.
Mia is still praying. Looking at her, I thought maybe she really wanted Vickie to be safe. Should I tell her about the inheritance now? But I haven't finished my investigation of her yet. Is Rose credible? Was Mia such a s.lutty woman?
No matter what kind of woman she is, the relationship between her and me can not be changed. She is my mother's daughter, and she had a right to an inheritance.
Mia stopped praying. She turned to me, her beautiful eyes as tender as my mother's. My heart softened at that moment, and just as I decided to tell her about the inheritance, Liv appeared.
She came out of the elevator and looked surprised when she saw me. Liv came up to me quickly, and she took my arm.
"Oh, Eva. Why didn't you tell me you were back?"
"I just got back. I'm sorry I didn't tell you," I said to Liv. "What are you doing here?"
"Mark told me that Vickie was in the hospital," Liv said, "When I was injured, Vickie was kind enough to let me recuperate at her estate. I was very grateful to her. So when I heard that she was dying, I asked Mark to bring me along."
"Is she your sister?" Liv glanced at Mia.
"Liv, this is my sister, Mia," I said. "Mia, this is my good friend, Liv."
Liv and Mia look at each other. They looked at each other for a second. Then Mia smiled and said to Liv, "Nice to meet you, Liv."
"You too," Liv said. "If you don't mind, I'd like to talk to Eva in private."
"Of course not," Mia said.
Then Liv suggested we take a walk in the small garden in the hospital atrium, so we went out of the building and sat on a bench in the garden. As soon as Liv sat down, she couldn't wait to tell me, "I don't like the way she smells."
"So?" Girls hate each other when they first meet, which means they can't be friends.
"Remember that thing you asked me to look into?" Liv whispered. "You'd be shocked if I told you."
"Just say it," I urged.
"But I have to tell you in advance that Mark is involved in the investigation of this Elena."
"What?" I quickly lowered my voice when I realized my voice was too high. "Why did you let Mark know about this?"
"He found out when I was investigating Elena, so he had to be involved," Liv whispered, "And it turns out, thanks to Mark's involvement, we've been able to uncover some secrets. It's all about Elena. Oh no, Mia."
"What did you find?" I asked, staring at her.
"Our investigation revealed that Elena had been adopted by a woman named Camilla, an older woman who used the adoption as an excuse to work as a p.rostitute. Although the woman had been dead for many years, Mark had some way of finding out about the girls she had adopted. We found Mia in photos of the girls. Her name on the profile was Elena. Mark also found Camilla's records of clients. Not only does it contain a lot of secret client information, but it also records the amount of money she earns by selling girls for their first night, including Mia's."
"Oh, no."Rose was telling the truth.
"Even though I don't like your sister, I'm still angry about what happened to her," Liv said. "Elena's v.irginity was sold to a man named Mickle."
"Mickle?" I stood up straight from the bench. "Are you sure that's the name?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Give me your full name."
"It's just Mickle on the list, but there's a soldier after the name," Liv said. "Maybe he is an ex-soldier."
No, that's impossible. My brain is fried. It's not Mickle Blanton.
"Are you okay?" Liv frowned. "I'm not finished."
"I'm fine, you can go on." I finally calmed down, and I told myself again and again in my heart, this is not true.
"Then the woman, Camilla, died. Mark found someone hacked into the hospital system to find out that Camilla had been poisoned. But her death was quickly forgotten by the police and the place where she lived was sealed off. Mark had a lot of trouble getting this information. Mark then found out that two of Camilla's girls were working at a club called the Sky, and one of them was Elena. But after a while, they both left the Sky at the same time. I used to go up into the Sky as a dancer, but the manager didn't say anything about Elena, so we had very little information."
Is someone keeping Elena a secret? Was it true or false that Jeff kept Elena? If Rose was telling the truth, Liv would be furious.
"Eva, what are you thinking?" Liv asked.
"Nothing." I came to my senses. "Thank you for doing so much for me."
"Mark thinks the investigation needs to be continued because he has always suspected that Mia approached Frade for a reason," Liv said. "He doesn't like Mia either."
"No, I can't let Mark continue his investigation. I think it's better to stop here." I hurriedly said, "Let me do the rest."
"Why?" Liv looked at me suspiciously. "Is there something you're not telling me?"
"No," I explained. "There's going to be a fight in the Logan family, and I think Mark needs to figure out how to stop it."
"No doubt he'll side with Frade," Liv said. "And you'll side with Daley, won't you?"
"I don't know." I felt tired, too many things pressing on me at once and I couldn't breathe. I have to contact Rose as soon as possible. Only through her can I get more real information about Mia.
My phone rang. It was Daley. I immediately pressed the answer button.
"It's me," Daley whispered.
"I know. Did something happen?"
"It's Vickie."
I gripped the phone tightly, my ear against the cold screen.
