Halloween 1986

JAMES STIFFLED A laugh as he watched his boyfriend walk down the steps in a long ginger wig. He was only half in costume considering he was still in Halloween pajama pants and a black t-shirt.

"Reggie, where's the rest of your costume?" He asked with a cocky grin.

"In the bedroom," Regulus answered as he reached the bottom of the steps. 

"You can't go out dressed like that. You are ruining the family costume."

"I'm not putting the Daphne costume on!" Regulus argued with a glare.

"You pulled the short stick, love. It's only fair," James argued with a smile.

"Yeah, dad! Go put the costume on!" Tiny, 5-year-old Hez ordered with a giggle as him and his two siblings entered the room.

Hez was in a tiny, little Scooby-Doo costume and Ella was in a Velma costume. Harry was their Shaggy of course and James was their Fred. Regulus was supposed to be their Daphne.

"Please, dad," Estrella begged with puppy dog eyes.

Regulus caved in with a sigh. He turned to look at James. "Jamie, stop teaching the kids your tricks of persuasion."

"What tricks of persuasion?" Harry asked with an innocent grin. "We haven't done anything."

James let out a helpless laugh as Regulus gestured to their eldest son to prove his point.

He pressed a kiss to Regulus's temple. "Go get changed, my love. The whole gang is waiting for us."

"You are so lucky I love you," Regulus told him before he started to walk back up the steps.

KIAN WOLF WHISTLED as they approached their friend group at the park, "Dang, Reg. Lookin good."

The Cresswell family was dressed as the Flinstones. Kian was Fred, Lily was Wilma, Aidan   Jr. was Bam-Bam, and Beatrix was Pebbles.

The Lovegood family was The Wizard of Oz. Pandora was Glinda, Xenophilius was the Cowardly Lion, and Luna was Dorthy.

Remus and Sirius were Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf. Sirius obviously being Little Red because that was just Sirius and Remus was already a wolf. He technically didn't even have to get in costume.

Lastly, Amycus, Ezra, and Mary were all rockstars.

Since Mary was the only single one, she usually joined Ezra and Amycus for costumes when the two boys decided they loved each other. The two were on and off. James didn't really understand it; all he knew was that the two of them were having one of their good days today.

"Piss off, Cresswell," Regulus muttered with a glare. "You're just mad you can't rock this Daphne costume as well as I can."

That made everyone laugh.

"Definitely one of the 'Top 10 things you wouldn't hear Regulus Black say above the age of sixteen'," Sirius teased. He then walked over to them and threw an arm around Regulus. "Love you little bro."

"The Black Brothers in drag," Amycus pointed out. "Walburger would be raging. She's probably rolling in her grave right now."

"Good," Regulus stated and the two brothers fist bumped at that.

"Can we start trick or treating now?" Luna asked sweetly. "I want candy!"

All the kids cheered at that and they all left the park.

The next day, all of them and the Longbottoms attended the Weasley's Halloween party.

It was pure chaos, but the Weasley parties were some of James's favorite things. He liked being together with all his favorite people. It was something that didn't happen as often now that they were all grown ups with jobs and kids.

He cherished every moment spent with the people he loved because if the war had taught him anything, you never know when that moment is going to be the last.
