JAMES FLEAMONT POTTER

Sirius had gone ahead to find their friends. James decided to stay back with his mum for a moment before he had to get on the train. His father had to be at the ministry so he hadn't been able to come to the platform today.

James was trying not to do it, but he still did it. He found Regulus Black in the crowd. His breath caught in his throat as he stared at Regulus. He was here and safe.

From anyone else's perspective he probably looked like the same old Regulus just a little older, but James could tell that wasn't true. It was the way he was standing and talking to what appeared to be his new Slytherin friends. James could tell was putting on an act right now and acting all emotionless like his parents wanted him too, but James saw right through it. Regulus Black was cracking. His different personalities were splitting and he didn't know how to act. Last year he had acted on what he truly wanted and now he was being tugged in the opposite direction by his parents and he didn't know what to do. James could tell how scared he was under his facade.

Regulus turned and he locked eyes with James. For a brief second he had an expression that James didn't get a chance to read before Regulus replaced it with a glare. So he was mad. I mean of course he was. James knew he would be, but it still hurt.

James turned to look at his mother and from the moment she looked at Regulus and then him, he knew that she knew. "Please don't tell dad. I- I didn't want anyone to know. Only Marlene knows and I-." He rushed out all at once in panic.

His mum cut him off by pulling him into a tight hug. "Of course I won't tell him, my love."

"Thank you. I- I don't know what to do, mum. I've tried to move on from him and I can't. I really can't. Last year we had something and I'm not necessarily saying it was romantic, but we had something and now we having nothing. He hates me, mum and I- I can't even tell him that he doesn't have to. I can't tell him about the letter. I just want to help him. I don't know you know more about this stuff than I do. What do I do?"

She hugged him tighter before pulling away. She now held his face in her hands and she had a serious look on her face. "I think he needs someone to fight for him. Someone to pull him back to the side he was on last year. All he has right now are his parents and you know how they are. But, James you have to listen me when I say this. You have to promise me that you won't tire yourself out trying to save him just because you like him. And if he starts to hurt you then you need to pull away. Try to move on again. It will be hard, but you can't just destroy yourself because you want to save him."

"He's been hurting me for the last year," James said sadly.

"Maybe he has, but if something romantic does form eventually and he is treating you like shit then you have to promise me you will pull away, love."

James nodded even though he didn't know if he could even do what she was asking. "I promise."
