Nolan decides to take me home after several hours of me just sitting on the chair next to Maddie's coma-state body, staring emotionless at her. I ran out of tears to cry after many breakdowns. I only feel the pain inside, like everything aches besides my heart. Each sob I let out, Nolan would grasp my hand and rub softly on my back as he bends beside my chair. He would quietly say some encouraging stuff, telling me to let it all out. Before entering Maddie's room, I bumped into Riley and her parents. Once I reach towards them, they pulled me to a comforting hug. They explained everything to me. Maddie and Riley were trick-or-treating around the area. They went a little far away from Riley's house, to get more candy. Once they cross the street, a car came fast towards them. What Riley told me is that they didn't see a car; there was no lights on. Riley seemed to run past it, but unfortunately Maddie didn't.
"Are you cold?" We were still on the ride, heading to my house. It's almost 11:30 PM and the road is pack at this hour.
I just shake my head. Every second, I check my phone, only to see no message or voicemail whatsoever from Xavier. Paul texted me a while ago, saying that he still doesn't know where Xavier is, which makes me feel pain even more. At a time like this, I need him. I just want to feel his embrace, to feel his lips on my skin, to feel his hand softly rubbing my back, but instead, I have Nolan to do those things. Nolan's touch feels different from Xavier's. Xavier's own is like a sunlight beaming on my skin, causing me to feel warm and relaxing. When Nolan touches me, it's like everything cools down inside me, like a cool wind rushing through me.
"Do you want to stop and get food?" He ask once he stops at a traffic light. "I don't know if you ate or not."
I remain quiet, not looking back at him as he looks at me. I could see his gaze in my peripheral vision.
"Scott, come on." It's sounds as though he's desperate for me to answer him or at least talk.
"I just want to go home, okay?" Feeling slightly annoyed. He remain quiet after that, continue driving once the light turns green. After a couple of more drives, we finally reach my home. Immediately, I exit his car and walk towards my door. I walk in, ignoring his call to me. I know it seems mean that I haven't thank him for bringing me and comforting me, but my conscious, right now, is thinking for me and all it wants to do is crawl in my bed and cry all night. And that's what I did once I got into my room. I clutch onto my blanket and drench it with my tears as I sob and weep.
Ruffling noises comes from outside my window, grabbing my attention. Hands pop up, grabbing onto the edge of the windowsill. I sit up, clutching my blanket even tighter as I cautiously look at my window. I, then, look around to see if there's anything I could use as a weapon. I quickly decide on using my bedside lamp, yanking the cord from the wall to unplug it. The hand starts opening my window, pushing it up. I clutch my lamp tighter, getting ready to throw it, but quickly abort once I see Nolan's head pop up.
"Noel?"
He pushes himself up into window, then through it. Finally getting in, he looks at me, then looks at the lamp on my hand.
"Really?" Seeing him stare at me with one eyebrow raised.
"It was the first thing that pop into my mind. I thought you left." My voice still sounds croaky from crying, hiccuping a little. He gets off the floor, dusting his pants off, then walks towards my bed. I place the lamp back on the table as he sits on the edge.
"What are you doing here?" I ask after placing the lamp back.
"I shouldn't leave you alone like this. Not when a friend is hurt." He gives me a concerning look.
"You don't need to do that. I'm fine on my own... I've always have been." Saying that last one quietly.
"What do you mean?"
