i awkwardly glanced over at travis, rethreading the beads of his broken necklace. he stared at my hands intently as i sewn the beads onto the string, looking up at my face when i put it down. he seemed to be even more tense when i picked up his locket, carefully removing the glass and the picture. as i did, he but his lip and whined loudly.
"what is it?"
he hummed in response as if he wasn't listening, which i wasn't surprised about either due to him watching me like a hawk.
"nothing. i'm just.. cautious."
i tried to change the subject, starting to ask him questions.

"so.. how.. how are you?"
he raised one of his eyebrows, scowling and humming loudly.
"um.. i'm fine. why?"
shrugging, i gently placed the image back into his locket, sealing it with thin, clear plastic. asking him questions had finally got him to stop watching me.
"laramie?"
i perked my head up, looking up at him once more. it always confused me how travis always switched between "larry" and "laramie" throughout conversations.
"hm?"
"i don't mind sitting here with you."

i couldn't help but smile, tying off his necklace.
"that's sweet. thank you. i don't mind either. i like.. not being enemies with you."
he smiled again, showing off his braces and the gap in between his teeth. his teeth were similar to mine, but my two front teeth were bigger, further forward, and i had a bigger gap in between my teeth. and i don't have braces. i guess they aren't that similar.
"you fixed my necklace for me. my mom's necklace. you'll never be my enemy ever again."
he clutched the necklace, almost tearing up at his almost brand new necklace. i took it back, gluing the knot so it wouldn't come undone again. he smiled, looking me in the eyes.
"thank you. thank you so much."
