i haven't been to larry's house in a while, and i felt like annoying him today.as i walked to the apartments, i came across a few flowers growing from a small grass patch against a wall. they were daffodils. bright yellow and stood tall in little bunches. they reminded me of something, but i couldn't figure out what. it was the colour in the petals and the way they stood.
i reached down and pulled one from the bunch, examining the flower inbetween my two fingers. as i spun the flower in a circle the stem drooped slightly. i knew what it reminded me of. travis. he loved daffodils. the brown spots inside of the flower reminded me of his freckles.
i picked up the whole bunch, clutching the flowers in my two hands as if it was valentine's day, trecking closer and closer to the apartments. i could probably get sal and todd first before heading down to him and travis.
i thought about larry and travis as i entered the apartments. i wondered if they were as close as before, or perhaps even closer.
"hi todd! u free tonight?"
he scoffed and nodded, neil stepping out from behind him.
"yes, only if neil can come."
todd already knew what we were doing and i wasn't surprised.
"hi ash! great to see you!"
neil always drank coffee. whenever i saw him he was always making some, drinking some, or asking if there was any. at the moment he had a mug in his hands, taking a small sip from it.
"yeah, he can come. i'm gonna go get sal. you wanna come or will you meet us down there?"
todd began to close the door.
"we'll meet you down there in about 10 minutes. see you ash!"
as the door clicked shut i went over to the elevator. i knew my way around this place so well. i clutched the flowers i still held in my hands with my right, knocking with my left hand."hi sal. i missed you."
he wasn't wearing his prosthetic or his glass eye at the time, and honestly he looked better that way, despite me falling in love with him when he only wore his prosthetic everywhere.
"hii! do you want to come in or are we going downstairs?"
i pointed to the floor. everyone always knew why i was here. larry and my friends were a big company to me, especially because i had known larry for so long. that's why i always joked around with him, in a rather mean way. but over the years, he's become so sad and sensitive. maybe it's just puberty, or maybe it's something else."i figured. is todd coming?"
i nodded and leaned down, kissing him on the cheek.
he was shorter than me but i couldn't care less. it was never a problem, except everyone thought that we were lesbians, for some reason. but it's not really surprising, since sal loved his pigtails.
"yeah, and neil."
he closed the door quietly.
"great.""hey um.. do you think there's something going on with larry and travis?"
i smiled.
"yes! definitely! they have to be dating. surely."
sals face shifted to him biting down on his lip.
"what?"
the elevator door pinged open yet he stayed in it.
"listen um.. don't tell anyone, okay?"
what if something bad happened between them? i can't even imagine that. i've never seen larry so close and so comfortable with someone before. that's if what sal wanted to say was even to do with them.
"yeah ofcourse sal. what is it?"
he stepped out of the elevator so he was standing beside me.
"larry is inlove with travis. like.. inlove. but travis doesn't know."
it wasn't really much of a surprise even though nobody had said it before now. i wish larry could just tell people how he feels. he's always so frightened of sharing an opinion or having feelings of his own."well.. it's not very surprising. but i guess it's good to confirm it from someone. did he tell you?"
as he nodded he knocked on the basement door.
"i guess i expected it."
the door creaked open slowly, travis stood in the gap. he seemed almost scared to open the door, but after he saw us, he opened it fully.
"hi travis. i found these. thought you'd like them."
travis saw the daffodils before anything else.
"aw.. thank you. do you want to come in?"
travis shut the door behind us and smiled at me sweetly. i love seeing him happy.
"thank you. wheres larry?"
he glanced back at the closed door.
"oh he's asleep. we can go in but please don't disturb him or wake him up. he's just.. really tired."
