Locking Regina up was easier than I thought it'd be. She didn't even put up a fight. I suppose she knew that putting up a fight would only cause her more problems. Seeing her behind bars loosened something tight in my chest. I didn't smile, but I didn't look away either.
After Regina's taken care of, Emma doesn't waste a second. She storms straight into Gold's shop, the rest of us right on her heels. I found out along the way that Mr. Gold is Rumpelstiltskin. Better known as The Dark One. I come along with the others to make sure Lacey is alright.
"What can I do for you?" He asks nonchalantly without looking up.
I roll my eyes. Mr. Gold's shop is a pawn shop. Random items litter the shelves. The place smells like old wood and incense. I look around but see no sign of Lacey. God, I really hope Jefferson didn't send her to her death.
"What you can do," Emma snaps. "is tell us what you did."
"I'm sorry, but you're going to have to be more specific." He condescends with a smile.
"How about starting with the purple cloud." I suggest, while running my fingers over a dusty globe.
"Ah, Ms. Digby. It is still Digby, right? Or would you prefer Kingsley? That was your name, right? Before you got married to your loving husband. I wonder, do you feel as strongly for him as he does for you?" He says with a knowing smile.
I look up at him without moving my head.
"You can just call me Alice, like everyone else, and my marriage is not up for discussion. What is up for discussion is that you double crossed Emma, you took your potion from her, and...what was the other thing? Oh, right? The giant purple cloud." I say, taking a step towards him.
"And worst of all, you risked Henry's life." Emma steps in now, seething.
She stares down Gold even more severely than she stared down the dragon.
"Well, now that is quite the litany of grievances, now, isn't it?" He asks cavalierly.
"Maybe I don't need answers, maybe I just need to punch you in the face." Emma says.
At this point, the only thing keeping them apart is the counter. I smirk, glad that Emma isn't above the petty joys of life like punching assholes in the face.
"Really, dearie?" Gold asks, coming around the counter. "Allow me to answer your questions with some of my own, all right? Did your dear boy Henry survive?"
"Yeah."
"Is the curse broken?" When she doesn't answer, he continues.
"And let's see here, Miss Swan, how long have you been searching for your parents? Looks like you're reunited. Seems like rather a punch in the face, I deserve a thank you."
"Thank yous are for people who do favors selflessly." I say, staring him down.
From the rumors I've heard about the Dark One, I expected him to be a terrifying monster. But it turns out he's just a manipulative coward who hides behind magic.
