The walk back to camp is completely silent. I did tell Regina 'I told you so' and she looked like she might smite me, so I kept my mouth shut the rest of the journey. Emma has decided to have another go at solving the map. Still feeling antsy after the fight, I decide to walk the perimeter of the camp. Mainly to keep me from feeling restless, but also to make sure no lost boys sneak into camp.
The area around the camp is surprisingly peaceful, in an unnerving way. Everything about this island is unnatural. I can't hear the familiar screeching of the cicadas or the sounds of animals rustling in the bushes. The most unsettling part is the lack of birds chirping. You don't realize how normal some sounds are until they're gone.
"You shouldn't stray this far away from the camp." I jump slightly, spinning around quickly, only to find Killian.
"Then why are you out here?"
He begins to walk alongside me, giving me a pointed look.
"To make sure we don't have to rescue two people instead of one."
That's fair.
"How generous,"
We continue walking in silence for a couple of minutes before he breaks it.
"You used your magic back there to block the arrow."
I take a deep breath before letting out. The whole magic thing still kind of freaks me out. The only time I had used it before was to heal myself. But that was on purpose. It's unsettling, knowing that I have this power inside of me that I don't know how to control.
What if I hurt someone?
"I didn't do it on purpose, it just kind of...happened," I say, kicking a small rock out of the way.
I realize he's stopped walking. I turn to see his unreadable expression glued onto me. A small crease forms between my brows.
"You were going to take an arrow for me without knowing if you'd survive?" He finally asks, voice rough.
My face flushes, and I turn to continue walking.
"I'd do the same for anyone," I say with a dismissive wave.
He catches up to me, matching my strides.
"Despite what you may think, I don't want you dead. If I did, you would be."
He doesn't respond right away, looking down at his boots.
"You should." He says quietly.
"I should... what?"
"Want me dead."
I stop dead in my tracks. I turn to look at him with wide eyes.
"You want me to want to kill you?" I ask incredulously.
