I rush up to the top deck to find Snow and David attempting to regain control of the ship. The ship sways from side to side from whatever creature has decided to attack. I'm very thankful that I have so much experience sailing, otherwise I probably would've lost my balance and fell overboard.

Hook runs to the helm and mans it while the rest of us prepare for an attack. I hear a familiar screeching noise and draw my sword before thinking better of it and running over to the cannon.

"Prepare for attack." Hook orders.

"David! Help me with the cannon!" I yell out over my shoulder but he either doesn't hear me or is ignoring me.

"What's out there? A shark? A whale?" Emma asks, looking down into the water.

"A kraken?" David adds.

"Mermaids." Me and Hook yell at the same time. I've run into many mermaids in my travels, none of the experiences were pleasant.

"Mermaids?" Emma balks.

"Yes, and they're quite unpleasant." Hook informs her, displeased by the whole affair. "I'll try and outrun them." I realize, after loading the gun powder into the cannon, that I won't be able to load fast enough to fight them off.

"David! The cannon!" I yell and, finally, he relents.

David quickly runs over and grabs some gun power, pouring more in. I hand him the small, but heavy, cannon ball. He swiftly puts it in, followed by a rope. I quickly light the end with a lighter that I, thankfully, had on me. David quickly aims the cannon while I prepare more gun powder. The shot goes off and we quickly reload and fire again. I don't bother checking to see if the mermaids are even being affected.

From my time sailing, I remember mermaids to be quite vicious but are typically skittish. If we manage to hold them off long enough without being capsized, we should be fine.

"We caught one!" Snow yells and I spare a glance to see that they've thrown the net overboard.

"Why?" I yell out incredulously. Me and David reload another cannon before firing once again but to no avail. Thankfully, Regina saves the day by throwing fireballs at them, causing them to retreat. Like I said, skittish. I let out a sigh of relief, giving David a pat on the shoulder.

"There. They're gone." Regina says, satisfied.

"What about this one?" Emma asks and I walk over and realize that they still have the damn mermaid in the net.

"Let her go! She'll leave with the rest of them!" I demand but Regina disregards me. With a wave of her hand, the mermaid appears behind us. She has dark hair, decorated with seashells and other pretty baubles. "No one ever listens to me." I remark under my breath.

"Get that thing off my ship!" Hook shouts and I can't help but nod in agreement.

"No! Now we have a hostage." Regina replies.
