When the others leave to go grab Pongo, I stay behind, wanting to talk to Belle now that I have the chance.
"Alice, I know you've already met Rumpelstiltskin, but I thought I'd formally introduce you since he's my boyfriend."
I look over to Gold, who begrudgingly smiles at me. I raise a brow.
"Yes, it seems you and I got off to a bad start. What do you say we start anew?" He offers his hand to me.
"You abandoned me in an elevator shaft," I say without moving.
"But I made up for it by helping you defeat Cora." He says with a condescending smile.
"No."
"Alice, please," Belle begs, giving me her puppy dog eyes.
I close my eyes and sigh.
"I will be civil, but I guess we'll see how far that goes. Is that fair?" I ask her.
She gives me a pleased smile.
"Sounds like a deal to me," Gold says.
I slowly reach out and shake his hand as though he has needles sticking out of him.
"Thank you, Alice," Belle says, wrapping me in a one armed hug.
I squeeze her a little in acknowledgment.
"So, you two knew each other in the hospital?" Gold asks, trying to be conversational.
"Twenty eight years being neighbors."
Emma comes back with Pongo before our conversation can continue. He's a gorgeous dog, covered in black and white spots. There's a little smile on my face as he happily wags his tail through the shop. I've always wished for a pet, especially a cat. But I never could since I was constantly out at sea, but now... now I'm stuck in one town. Maybe I can guilt someone into getting me one.
"Good boy, good boy."
Gold bends down and begins petting the dog in an uncharacteristic manner.
"I didn't know you were such a dog person," Belle says with an endeared look on her face.
"Well, a long time ago, in another life, I got to know a sheep dog or two." He smiles up at her.
She returns it lovingly.
"Perhaps the cell did more damage to her brain than I had thought." I murmur under my breath.
"That's fascinating, but unless you speak dog, how is Pongo gonna tell us anything?" Emma deadpans.
"Is it really that surprising? Your mother can speak to birds." I ask with a raise of my brow.
She concedes with a shrug.
"Well, I don't speak dog, but that doesn't mean we can't extract his memories," Gold explains, still crouched next to Pongo.
