I climb down the beanstalk silently, seething. I haven't felt this kind of fury since my mother passed. I look down, the ground finally within reach. Emma's already at the bottom, talking animatedly, like nothing happened. I steel myself before jumping the short distance to the ground, landing in an undignified heap.
"Alice!"
Snow hurries over and pulls me to my feet.
"You fell awfully behind. What happened?" Aurora asks with worried brows.
Before I can answer, Emma steps into my path.
"Look, Alice-"
She looks down at her feet.
"Don't."
I don't spare her a glance. I make my way over to Mulan.
"Did... something happen?" Snow asks.
Emma ignores Snow.
"I don't understand why you're so upset. The giant will set him free after ten hours. It's not like he's going to die." Emma says, shifting from one foot to the other.
"And then what?" I ask evenly.
"What?" Emma's face contorts.
"He betrayed Cora to help us," I say.
Her eyes widen slightly, her throat bobbing. There it is.
"I-you don't think-"
"I gave him my sword."
Everyone's heads snap toward me. I fix my gaze on Emma.
"We'll just have to deal with Cora without it."
Even if it was the only thing keeping us alive. I walk away without waiting to see who follows.
"That's not- I didn't think-"
I turn on my heel.
"Which is why I'm leading." I snap coldly. "Next time, you listen."
She clenches her jaw, looking away.
"Now let's go get the dust from Cora."
