After climbing out of the pit, we're marched forward by a group of guards. It's hard to even call them guards when they aren't wearing proper armor. The dark haired woman could deal with us better than these four. Regardless, they keep their watchful gazes on us the entire time, guiding us to their leader.
"Why couldn't you have just listened to us?" Snow asks in a thin voice, in direct opposition to my own.
I can imagine that having your own daughter not willing to trust you would be hurtful. But I can't exactly blame Emma. After all, they both look about the same age. But she's trying to apply her world's logic to to a world that relies on belief and magic.
"Why couldn't you have trusted me? I was just trying to find a way to get us home." Emma shoots back.
"Trying to find a way to get us killed." I correct.
She shoots me a vexed look.
I ignore it.
"I could've handled her." Emma says confidently.
I scoff.
"Cora? Don't be so sure." Snow says, disbelieving.
"Cora was able to rule over an entire land because of how powerful she was, and you think going to her for help is a good idea?" I ask rhetorically.
She looks slightly embarrassed, though she tries to hide it. I close my eyes, feeling a slight pang of guilt in my chest. After all, she's stuck her because of me.
Because she wouldn't let me go through the portal alone.
"Well, how was I supposed to know that?" She asks defensively.
I stop walking, turning on my heel to face her."You're not, that's the whole point. You know nothing of this world and yet refuse to listen." I say quietly, snapping despite myself. "I know you feel powerless. I would too if I were in your shoes. But the best way to learn is to listen to people who know better than you."
Emma stares at me for a long moment before scoffing and looking away. I throw my hands up.
"We've lived here, Emma. I know this world and its dangers." Snow pleads.
"Wait here." One of the guards says before walking off.
Emma turns to look at her mom with contempt.
"Is that why you came through the portal? Because you thought I was helpless here?" She asks.
"That would imply that she thinks I'm helpless, so probably not." I deadpan.
"No."
Snow shakes her head.
"I came through to be with you." Her voice sounds heartbroken, tears in her eyes.
They stare at each other in silence.
Snow glances over Emma's shoulder, and her face lights up.
"Lancelot?" Snow asks, a relieved grin on her face.
