The stampede of students squeezed through the doorway by foot. They're too slow. I pricked my finger on the ring that I wore on my index finger (it was approved by the facility beforehand), allowing me to latch a blood rope onto the gate. Effortlessly, I swung over the crowd, getting a head start. Hey, they said that anything goes. Running isn't really my thing, but my quirk was able to help with my stamina a little bit as I sped up the rate of my blood flow. The more oxygen that flows through my veins, the more energy I have.

It's a good thing that I didn't touch the ground, since Todoroki froze it, leaving everyone but the two of us stuck to the floor. Or so I thought. Aoyama, Kirishima, Momo, Bakugo, Katsumi, and a bunch of our other classmates were also able to avoid the ice.

Bakugo and Todoroki managed to pass me, but that's fine. It only matters if I stay in the front.

"You know, I should just teleport to the end." Katsumi popped up next to me, casually chilling in my shadow. "But it's more fun to hitch a ride."

"That's one way to get your kinder eggs," I sweat dropped. "I wouldn't try to get in the top three places though. Those teachers are probably already plotting something for the winners to make the games ten times harder."

"What makes you say that?"

"It's UA. They're all a bit crazy here."

"Behind you!" Katsumi shouted just in the nick of time.

I rolled on the ground, barely missing the giant metal leg that swung at me. Looking behind me as I continued to run, I noticed a few giant, green machines attacking some of the other students.

"The entrance exam bots?!" I heard someone shout from a distance.

"Oh yeah, we fought those things in the entrance exam," the white-haired girl recalled.

"Terminate them!" The metal bot roared.

"Uh, that sounds totally safe," I awkwardly laughed. "Y'know, this seems like a them problem. Mind teleporting us a few meters ahead?"

"Aye aye, captain."

We sunk into the shadow of one of the robots. I get that this is an 'every man for themselves', but there are no rules about teaming up. Katsumi's shadow portal spit us out in front of a death trap.

"What the fuck is that?!" My friend's jaw dropped, as we looked at the giant canyon with small platforms that were connected by the rope. "Certain death is what's down there!"

Somehow, Todoroki and Bakugo had already passed us, which meant that we didn't have time to hesitate. I jumped onto one of the closer platforms, using my blood as a vaulting pole.

"No fair! You can't leave me here!"

"Chill, I'm getting there!"

My vaulting pole softened, stretching out towards Katsumi, picking her up and bringing her over to my platform. I repeated the same process for getting to the pillars, as my friend held onto the pole with me. The other students began to show up once we were more than three-fourths of the way across.

After not even another minute of running, we stopped next to a giant billboard.

"Danger: mines," I read out loud.

"Damn, there's no shadows," the white-haired girl sighed. "No teleporting for us. Oh well, back into your shadow I go!"

"Don't worry," I smiled. "Stealth is my thing."

They didn't hide the mines too well, so this won't be too difficult. Keeping an eye on the ground, I stepped around all of the mines. In front of us, I could hear Bakugo and Todoroki fighting. Don't panic. Remember, you don't want to get first. Just as we almost caught up to the two in the front, I was almost knocked over by a giant explosion behind us. What the-

"Oh my God, is that your pookie?" Katsumi asked, popping her head out of my shadow and pointing to something flying across the field.

After taking a closer look, I saw that it was Izuku. Damn, he took a piece of that robot and used an explosion to catapult himself ahead of everyone. It makes sense though, considering that he wouldn't want to break his body with his quirk in the first round.

He proceeded to land in front of Todoroki and Bakugo, before being pursued by the two. Placing his shoes on his opponent's shoulders, Izuku slammed his sheet of metal down in between them, creating another explosion and allowing him to get in first place.

The finish line was right there, but right before I was able to reach it, Katsumi jumped out of my shadow and into Bakugo's. Wow.  Izuku finished first, Todoroki second, Bakugo third, Katsumi fourth, me fifth, etc.

After I caught my breath, I noticed Izuku, staring off into space. Walking over to my boyfriend, I placed my hand on his shoulder, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Nice job, Izu."

"Thanks," he grinned. "Congrats to you too!"

"Deku!" Ochaco ran over to us. "That was amazing!"

"Oh, thank you."

"I can't believe you got first place, I'm jealous!" The brunette squealed.

"The first game for the first years is over and what a game it was!" Midnight commented. "Now, let's take a quick look at the standings, shall we?" The screen before is listed the rankings. "Only the top 42 will advance to the next round, but don't be too let down if you didn't make the cut! We've prepared other opportunities for you to shine. Now the real fun is about to begin. The chance to fully move yourselves into the limelight! Give it your best!" The wheel came back, deciding the next game. "Let's see what we have in store for you next."

"Cavalry battle?" I said out loud. Ugh, I actually have to team up with people (Katsumi is the only exception). I love Izuku, but Katsumi and I are just the dream team.

"Allow me to explain," Midnight continued. "The participants will form teams of two-to-four people as they see fit." Oh, this could actually work. "In theory, it's basically the same as a regular playground game, though there is one difference. Each player has been assigned a point value based on the results from the obstacle course." The screen with our rankings and point values were shown behind the teacher. "The point assignments go up by increments of five, starting from the bottom. For example, 42nd place is worth 5 points, and 41st is worth 10. And the point value assigned to the first-place contestant is... ten million!"
