Well, it wasn't easy. Plus, I'm sure if I have to go back to that tower for any reason with that disguise, I'm going to have some serious damage control to fix. But it's done! All three items Alastor requested have been turned in. Even with the short one-week timeframe he gave me. But boy, it sure wasn't easy!

I really hope I don't have to use that disguise again. If I really want to cover my tracks, I could find the corpse of a small and weak demon, make them unrecognizable, put some of my tattered clothes on their dismembered body and put it in view of the V's tower. That way they would think I was double dead. But that seems like a lot of effort to go through. Maybe if I'm gone long enough, they'll think the same thing regardless.

I roll over on my side and look at my cellphone from the nightstand of my bed, checking the time. It's almost time for dinner. I should really figure out what I'm going to do for food tonight. Alastor has left me alone ever since I gave him the love potion from Velvette, which has been a nice break. Maybe I'll go ask Husk if he wants to do something together for dinner.

As I walk down the hallway, I pass Sir Pentious. He checked into the hotel just a couple of days ago, but I haven't been available enough to have many interactions with him thanks to Alastor's fetch quest. From what Angel told me, he originally came to the hotel as an undercover agent working with the V's, but now truly wants redemption. Good for him, I guess.

The closer I get to the lobby and bar the more clearly I hear an argument happening. My fox ear twitches as I try to make out the voices of who's arguing. It doesn't sound like the girls.

Turning the corner, I see Husk behind the bar and Angel standing up from his barstool, his multiple eyes glowing and anger faced towards Husk.

"Call me fake one more time mother fucker. I dare you." Angel threatens. I wonder what's gotten him so upset.

Husk calmly pokes Angel on the chest and confidently says the word, "fake." Way to go, Husk. Provoke the angry spider!

"Fucking asshole!" Angel growls out before accidentally hitting his head on the top of the bar and falling over.

After a bit more banter between the two Angel storms out of the hotel. Charlie and Vaggie convince Husk to go after him, which I think is reasonable, but also ruins my dinner plans. So now what?

"Oh good, (y/n) darling, you're free." I hear his staticky voice behind me. I clench my fists and my ears lower. He's absolutely not the person I want to see right now.

"I'm hungry is what I am." I counter, turning around to look at him. I calm down, unclenching my fists and fixing my ears. "What can I help you with, Alastor?" I ask calmly.

"Actually, sounds like I can help you." Alastor responds in an excited tone. I can't help but notice that over his regular outfit is a beige cooking apron. "I just finished making dinner and I made too much food for just myself. Why don't you join me?" He offers.

I tilt my head in confusion. Is he... being nice? This doesn't seem right. Also... "I know what you eat. We don't exactly eat the same things, Alastor." I do my best to point out politely.

He waves at me, like that will get rid of all my worries. "I do occasionally cook, you know." He sounds jokingly offended. "I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I can guarantee it." He holds his hand out, waiting for me to accept.

I'm confused on if I actually have a choice and he's being genuinely nice, or if this is required but he's just putting on a polite front. I know I don't want to risk making the Radio Demon angry, and truthfully, I do need to eat. This is quite a predicament.

I put my hand in his, which he holds gently and leads me back down the hallway to the dining room. This shift in his mood is throwing me for a loop, and oddly enough terrifies me a little more than he normally does. At least when he's being a dominating overlord, I know what to expect. With this, I feel like he'll snap at any minute, and I don't know what will set him off.

Alastor doesn't say anything until we make it to the dining room. He has the table set with two plates, silverware for two, and two empty glasses. There's a closed pot in the middle of the table that's sitting on a pot warmer, and a few candles lit on the table. The lights in the dining room are on, but they've been dimmed quite a bit. This reminds me of our... wait...

"Tell me, darling. When's the last time you've had jambalaya then?" Alastor asks as he takes the lid off the pot in the middle. That's what that heavenly smell was, of course. "Was it our date back in 1933?" He asks, motioning for me to sit down.

"I..." I don't know how to answer him. I mean I can easily answer his question, but I can't figure out why he's doing this. I don't take my eyes off him, but I take a seat at the table, watching as he serves the two of us. Before he sits down, he unties the apron and hangs it off the back of his chair.

"Why are you doing this?" I finally ask. I'm sure he can tell by the tone in my voice that I don't mean to be combative, I'm genuinely confused.

"Hm?" Alastor acts confused by my question as he pulls the cork off the red wine bottle. Where did he even get that?! "I figured you did such a fantastic job on your last assignment that you deserved a reward." He takes my glass and pours my wine before his. "And there's no better reward for a job well done than my mother's recipe of jambalaya. Truly nothing better!" He laughs as he holds his glass up to me.

"To a job well done, darling." He toasts.

I'm still insanely confused, and I feel like my motions are just happening without much thought. I clink my glass against his and take a sip. It is good wine.

"I told you to get me three separate items from three separate overlords in a week's time, and you delivered." Alastor continues as he takes another sip of wine. "I am truly happy I didn't end your existence that night with Husker. That would've been such a waste." He shakes his head at the thought before his eyes look back at me. "Tell me, now that you've accomplished so much, met new people, and are slowly becoming stronger, are you happy I didn't kill you that night?" Alastor asks.

I laugh a little, rolling my eyes. "Which time? The first time you tried to kill me back when we were living, or the second time I asked you to when you beat Husk during your card game?" I joke. He doesn't take the bait and waits for my honest answer. That is quite the question.

I've built a great relationship with Husk; he's been a great friend to me during my time here. I've met Charlie, Vaggie, Niffty, Angel, and Sir Pentious here at the hotel. I've outsmarted three overlords and really stretched my abilities lately. I've felt more confident in myself. As much as I don't want to admit it, most of this wouldn't have happened if it weren't for my contract with Alastor.

So, am I happy I'm still in Hell?

"...Yeah, I'm happy."
