ANALYSIS :

Plot:

"In the heart of Shadowfell, darkness is not just a force; it's a destiny."

In a world shrouded in darkness, Detective Victoria Blackwood walks a dangerous path, seeking justice for victims brutally murdered. Meanwhile, Dominic Gray, an enigmatic artist, uses the victims' blood as his muse, driven by a quest for revenge against the prophecy and a desperate search for his long-lost sister. But crossing paths with Victoria was never part of his plan.

Victoria is determined to eradicate all the darkness in Shadowfell City, but is she aware of the secrets and shadows she carries within? Could Dominic and Victoria have emerged from the same darkness- the shadow known as The Prophecy? Will she win or lose in this game of cat and mouse?

And can Victoria survive when she discovers the darkness inside herself? (Taken from description)

Characters:

Victoria is a determined and fearless detective who is constantly undertaking dangerous paths to seek justice. Dominic on the other hand is a stone-cold artistic serial killer with darkness and vengeance in his heart. The other minor characters are either victims or people that surround Victoria.

Writing Style: 8/10

The story is written in 1st person POV. Each chapter is spoken in the voice of either of the main characters (Victoria and Dominic). In Victoria's POV, we can see her fears, decisions, and reactions to every little thing going on in and around her. In Dominic's POV, the author clearly shows us the depth of his darkness and heartlessness, while also giving a peek into the humanity left in him. The sentences are structured well which gives the readers a mental image of what is going on in the story without overcrowding the paragraphs with words. The emotions are shown by actions and not just mentioned.

Spellings and Vocabulary: 10/10

There are little to no grammar errors

EVALUATION

Overall Impression:

This is a very well-written investigative thriller. I haven't felt the romance part yet but the book is far from over. You can clearly see that some strange bond of fate connects the two characters and there are a lot of unknowns to be discovered. And might I say, the letters at the end of the chapters are a very nice touch to the story. Normally, I read the first 5 chapters and then the latest chapter, but I was so pulled into the story that I read it all while at work.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

One thing I would applaud you for is putting the investigation process into the book. It shows that research was done. I love the mystery component of it.

Recommendation:

Gradually input the physical features of a character into the plot instead of using two paragraphs to give us a picture.

There is some repetition and overlaps in certain actions, try to imagine the plot lines as you proofread it.

If it is possible, you can have a minor character who would be the coroner, because realistically, detectives can't find clues on bodies like it is portrayed in the book.

Target Audience:

18-35, Young Adult
