Yibanathi
I go downstairs and I am walking slowly since I am feeling a bit funny. My body is not it's usual self.
I just feel off and I walk downstairs. Velile is walking up and down near the kitchen. I am really scared of her now.
"Mom the search is coming this side today!"
I hear a bold voice shouting from behind me. I swear my whole body froze at that same instance and my stomach felt cold. I guess this is when I should say "that's my cue to leave" but I just feel frozen. Cebo was walking downstairs coming to our direction. Velile looked like she was starting to sweat.
"Boy why don't you just take a drive to the village square maybe just to see if there is anyone meeting there."
She says smiling a little while looking at her son who goes out the door and then it is just the two of us left. She looks at me up and down busy sizing me. I just decide to be brave and be the one to start the topic of me departing.
"Uhm Ma..."
I try to talk when she interrrupts me.
"Shut it right there. Nonsense of a girl."
I look at her in shock.
"Umthetho wakho ucabanga ukuthi ungubani wena, khona manje usuthakatha ingane yami uyayiheha ufuna yondle lodoti owuthwele!"
[Who on earth do you think you are, as it is right now you are busy bewitching my son so that he can raise this bastard you are carrying!]
She says while shaking her head.
"Eh?!"
I say out in shock.
"You think I don't see what you are up to huh?"
She says while raising her eyebrows and she continues to speak.
"Now you listen to me little girl your plans have failed do you hear me!"
Today is not my day at all. I am even feeling a bit off and someone is biting my head off for nothing. I slept on the cold tile floor the whole night and now I am up arguing about the skirt chaser of a son.
"I am sorry but I am not interested in your son at all."
I say out to her.
"Lies! You are busy seducing my son with your pregnant self in my house and now my marriage is on the line because of you."
Marriage on the line because of me what about Malibongwe?! Velile is crazy shame!
"Yibanathi my son is busy buying you snacks in my own house to feed your cravings...as what...who are to shove your useless cravings on my son?"
"I heard that you ran away from home because you don't want to say the person who impregnated you so you thought I wouldn't find out huh?"
What is she even on about?
"I wanted to keep you in this house but I see that being in this house is driving you crazy now look my son is after you. You were doing a good job steering my son into the correct path the one thing you did wrong was to make him fall in love with you."
She says leaving me shocked.
"I did nothing wrong Mrs Ndamase."
I say taking a deep breath before continuing to talk.
"Well on the research part you are not the only one who was doing research. I know about you and Malibongwe."
She looked like she was shocked. Ah ha! I now have to play along but I know she is cheating on her husband but I want to hear her say it.
"I don't know what you are talking about."
She says to me confidently.
"Don't worry your husband will know exactly what I am talking about when I whisper these news to him."
I say trying to scare her. She looks angry at me.
"You are threatening me in my own house. What do you even know huh?"
She says coming close to me. I move back a little.
"A lot."
I say confidently.
"A lot? What is it that you even know?"
She questions me.
"I know Vee that the chief advisor and you have something going on and it is only a matter of time Cebo and his dad finds out."
I say to her.
"I have nothing going on with the chief advisor besides I was only looking out for you."
She answers me while scratching her head.
"Looking out for me by imprisoning me here in your house and not respecting your wedding vows...when were you going to let me out. Wait is this your plan to keep me here like this? Why are you being like this ?"
I question her.
"You ungrateful rat! After everything I have done for you to try and keep you safe you are now threatening me."
She says while holding her chest. This woman is indeed up to something.
"Why are you risking everything for me...what is it that you will gain from this?"
I question her. She keeps quiet.
"In that case I will wait for your husband so that I can thank you all for your hospitality and p-a-t-i-e-n-c-e."
I say to her while dragging the word patience. I am grateful for all her help till this far but I fear the worst is yet to come and my initial plan was to leave either way but now that I think of it. I am being really crazy right now. Where will I even go but then the search party is coming this side of the village and now that Mr Ndamase is back I am sure he will want the people to search his house so they know he is is not involved since he is a man of the law either way it is best they find me gone rather than being dragged from here to my home or even involving innocent people like the father and son of this family in my mess.
Going home is not an option for me. If I step foot in that house I am sure that Avuyile and MaNgubo will make me suffer dearly for what I did to them.
Velile walks closer to where I am standing and she pushes me roughly
"Angeke ngivume ukulahlekelwa umendo ngenxa yakho mina uyangizwa yini. Uzongiphumela kwami nxa!"
[I will not lose my marriage because of you, do you hear me. You better get out of my house!]
She says to me.
"Phuma uphele emzini wami!"
[Get out of my house!]
Okay she just made matters worse. I wanted to announce that I am leaving and now she decided to kick me out.
"I am going but let me just take my bag."
I walk upstairs and to the dusty bedroom and I take my bag. The bag is ready after all I was the one who was planning on leaving but now I am a bit scared. I decide to change into a dress and keep the legging on as well as the flip flops. I just removed the t-shirt only. I walked back downstairs carrying my bag.
Velile came and gave me a "hand" with my bag. The woman literally pulled the bag from me and marched to the front door and threw it out as well as pushed me to follow it. I looked back and realised that she has marched back to her house. I am officially shelter less. I picked up my bag and headed for the gate so that my walking journey could start.
