Thembekile
It has been 2 full days ever since that encounter with Mthiyane and Junior. I am unfortunately on the receiving end of silent treatment in this house.
The grandkids are resting upstairs and as usual I am the only adult in the house.
I swear being Mrs Zondo is so not cool.
I need to think of ways to get my house in order because this is not the life I signed up for and Junior is really making my life miserable I swear.
Umuntu uzoze alambe ngenxa yalengane.
[One will end up starving because of this child.]My phone rings and I look at the screen it is my sister Velile.
I last spoke to her 3 days ago."Ngane ka baba."
[My father's child.]I say to her. I always call her that we both have different moms but the same dad. What a family I tell you.
"Thembi how are you doing?"
She asks me and I want to say I am doing great but that would be a lie. I don't want to seem as if I cannot handle my marriage. Velile my sister is enjoying her marriage by the look of things.
"Veli I wish I can say I am fine but I will be better."
I reply to her on the phone.
"What is going on my skat ?"
Velile asks me and I swear some things never change. Veli has this thing of calling people dear or skat. Skat is basically dear in afrikaans so she started to call everyone skat after she was watching an afrikaans series years ago and now she has not stopped but I don't mind even though she sometimes does it in a sarcastic manner but what can I say she is my older sister.
"Veli a lot is going on and I swear Junior is going to be the end of my marriage."
I confess and hopefully she will give me proper advice after all she is experienced in this thing called marriage. She scored herself an average xhosa man who is a man which abides the law and does things the legit way unlike me whereas my husband is a man who is against the law.
"what has that boy done now , Thembi I did warn you about that boy though no wonder I did not like him."
Veli sounds like she is sleeping.
"Veli are you sleeping?"
I question her because how can I speak about such matters while she is sleeping it would really be disrespectful.
"I was but not anymore I am sitting now."
Veli answers.
"Well he does not want to leave the case of his mother's death."
I reply.
"Ayy just leave him Thembi, the boy needs closure. You all should allow him and not try to stop him."
Veli answers and she definitely does have a point on the closure part because he is not at peace for his mother's death.
"So you suggest we leave him to seek this justice of his own?"
I question Veli.
"Yes leave him and he will find peace on his own do not pressure him."
Velile answers me.
"All right thank you sis."
I say to her.
"No problem and either way I wanted to tell you that I have found a girl who is now living with us."
"A girl?"
I question her.
"Yes a girl, she seems to be in some sort of trouble with her family and she had no place to sleep so I offered her shelter."
She explains.
"What kind of trouble can that be?"
I question her.
"she is kicked out of the house by her family because she is pregnant."
Veli is so kind it can never be me. I can not allow someone to just move in with me all because her family kicked her out. I would at least get the family to take her back because I believe there must be a reason for her to just be sent to be stranded on the road.
"Wow and you allowed the girl to move in just like that Veli?"
I question her.
"Yes and she seems to be the only one who can get Boy Boy into line by the look of things?"
Boy Boy is Veli's last born and he is 27 around Junior's age because Junior is 26. Boy Boy and Junior don't really get along because last month when I had suggested for Junior to go and visit Boy Boy for 2 weeks he came back after a week and he sent someone to fetch his clothes because he said he couldn't stand Boy Boy.
"Junior needs stability and Boy needs to grow up and stop running after girls."
I honestly say to Veli.
She sighs and we continue to chat a bit and I see Mthiyane entering through the door.
"Baba."
I say to him and he comes and sits next to me on the couch.
"Nkosikazi."
We look at each other for a little and he holds my hand while looking at me straight in the eye.
"i am sorry about how I have been behaving my love."
He says to me.
"Please forgive me Thembekile wami."
He says while kissing my hands.
"I am also sorry and you are not forgiven."
I say to him with a straight face.
"I am not forgiven?"
He questions while sulking at me. I wonder what he was thinking that a whole me would jump and kiss his feet just at his lousy "I am sorry".
"Yes, you are not forgiven. Do you know the pain you have caused me these past few days while you were ignoring me?"
He looks down shyly. He must be mad if he thought I will just forgive him so easily.
"Thembi?"
He says to me and he has not stopped staring into my eyes.
"I want a new car Zondo and maybe just maybe you will be forgiven."
I answer him. I have been meaning to ask him for one but knowing him the man would've refused but now I know it will be done even though I do not know when.
He nods while opening his arms and I fall straight into his embrace. I have missed his warm hugs.
Things have just gotten better now that Mthiyane has apologized. The only problem left is no other than Junior.
