EDITED
"So, what did the big bad wolf have to say?" Megan asked as she placed the three drinks down at our pub table.
I had decided on telling at least these two, in case I was murdered at least they would know where to start. I told them everything in between picking out lunch and sipping on my diet coke. "Okay, well you do realise when he calls we're coming?"
I shook my head, leaning back in the chair as I looked around the crowded pub filled with more of our friends from school. "No, you're not. I promised."
Scarlett scoffed. "Who cares? You don't know this guy. So, we're coming and so are the guys." I cocked my head the same time she frowned at her own words. "Maybe not Danny."
I sighed. "I don't know. Calvin didn't even want me going." I told her as I saw the waitress making her way over to us with three plates. "Plus, he has his own pack. He doesn't need ours." I felt Megan freeze and suddenly realised what I said.
When I turned to her in confusion, her mouth spread into a grin. "So, you finally admit it!" She laughed and wrapped her arms around my neck.
I shrugged her off and thanked the waitress for the buttermilk chicken burger and chunky chips.
"Okay fine, so we are kind of involved with this stuff now." I admitted still hiding my smile. "But still, I'll have to check with Calvin." She shared a look with Scarlett, as if to say whatever. "Just don't tell the guys about it yet please." She nodded and pretended to zip her lips.
"How are you feeling about tomorrow?" Megan asked as she popped a chip into her mouth. "The Parker Christmas party."
"Much better now that you two are coming." I confessed. "I don't know if I could handle it without you."
Scarlett shrugged. "You did okay with his mums birthday right?" The reminder of my argument with Zach out on the deck made me wonder if I did do okay or not. If I was going crazy in that conversation. If it even happened. The look in his eye and the confession he made. It wasn't even real.
"I think having you two makes it slightly more normal."
"Talking about having us two." Megan started. "How are you really feeling about Danny." She kept her voice down slightly as there were people from school also hanging around the pub.
I finished my first bite of my chicken burger and shrugged. "I'm fine." Lie of course and by the looks on their faces they knew it too. "Okay slightly not fine." Scarlett looked like she sank a little as she leant forward hoping for me to open up more. "You know at the bonfire he told me he heard all my messages after Luke died. He just didn't care."
Megan winced slightly before she spoke. "What did you expect? He was trying to turn off his emotions, if he came running back it could have ruined that."
I shrugged, knowing she was right but it didn't hurt any less. "Maybe I wish it did ruin that."
"Wait." Scarlett shook her head. "Are you saying you want him back?" I could only shrug again, not sure what I wanted anymore. "I thought you had moved on."
"What does moving on mean?" I laughed. "He was gone for so long that I got used to not seeing him but now he's back, I can't help how I feel."
Megan sat back in her chair with her drink. "How do you feel?"
I never needed to not be honest with my friends, but I wasn't sure if confessing this made me look pathetic. "I feel like he's come back and broken my heart all over again."
Daniel pov
I stepped into the diner with the familiar ring of the bell as a greeting. Haylie wasn't behind the counter, instead she stood at a corner booth with a notepad in her hand taking an order. Her long thick hair was tied in a pony showing off her delicious neck. The black skinny jeans showed off the, just as delicious, long legs and round arse.
