EDITED - Alex

Haylie

When I walked up the steps to my front door, I made sure Megan and Scarlett were completely out of sight before pulling my phone out and dialling Daniel for the tenth time.

He didn't show up to the last class and he would never do that, he obviously hadn't even told the school since there was no substitute to take over so we all left when the 15 minute rule hit. It rang out again and I thought about leaving a message but instead just shoved the phone into my bag.

Of course, he wouldn't answer. He disappeared when I obviously needed him today and now he can't even reply to a text. I couldn't think about it right now though, as I opened the door, I had to prepare for the wrath of Alex.

"Haylie?" I heard a voice from the kitchen. I walked in and saw Charlie attempting to make something at the kitchen island.

"Hey." I said with a chuckle. "Whatcha doing?" I asked leaning on the island, trying to pretend I wasn't both terrified of my sister and slightly hurt by my boyfriend.

"Alex is upset so I'm making her cookies," she said, and I smiled at her.

She was definitely the nicest sister out of the three of us.

"That's nice." I said looking down at my hands. "Where is Alex?" I asked with a wince and Charlie poured some flour into a bowl.

"In her room. Don't tell her I'm making her cookies though. It's a surprise." The 10-year-old smiled at me and I prayed she would always make cookies and never meet a stupid boy.

I nodded and made my way to the stairs. Once I got outside Alex's room I took a deep breath before knocking.

"What Charlie?" She asked and I opened the door. Her eyes hardened as she saw me instead of Charlie. "What do you want?" She must have been a total mirror of me a couple of months ago.

I sighed taking in her position. Her back to the dresser, her knees to her chest and her makeup dried to her face.

"I wanted to see if you were okay." I admitted and she scoffed.

"Am I okay? You ruined everything Haylie!" She yelled, her voice cracking my heart. "Why did you have to get involved? It was nothing to do with you! Now Luke's broken up with me..." I interrupted her before she could finish.

"You and Luke weren't together!" I stated, suddenly defensive. Suddenly wanting to protect her at all costs from him. She stared at me for a moment, in disbelief, but I knew she knew I was right. "You didn't hear what he said about you Alex." I said softly, trying not to be the weak one here.

I could visibly see her breathing change. She shook her head after a few seconds. "No." She stated. "You don't know anything about me and Luke. You don't know the things he's said to me." She said with a crack in her voice, she wanted to believe the words she was saying.

"The promises he's made?" I asked and she looked up to me again. "The promises he's already broken." I stated as a single tear fell from her eyes. "Let me tell you what's happened." I said as I walked further into her room. "People saw you together Saturday night. People started talking about it and he started acting shifty." Her breath hitched. Indicating I was on the right track. "Not texting back on just being blunt." She threw her head back against the wall. "Acting like he doesn't give a shit." She shook her head as she looked to the ceiling.

"He just acts like that sometimes." She tried to defend.

I shook my head again even harsher. "If a guy wants to be with a girl, he will make it happen, no matter what. So, trust me when I say if a guy is treating you like he doesn't give a shit, he genuinely doesn't give a shit. No exceptions." I stated and a few more tears fell before she looked to me again.
