"That was definitely the highlight of my day so far." Zach said with a grin as we hit the bottom floor of the garage.

I stopped when my feet left the steel staircase. "What did you say to her, Zach?"

He stopped in his tracks when he heard the tone in my voice. Jamie and Ben also stopped whatever they were doing to pay attention. He took a moment before shrugging. "I don't know what you're talking about."

My fists clenched at my sides. I didn't understand how he had the audacity to smile like it was a game. "I wont ask you again."

He bit his lip, obviously seeing I wasn't playing. "She's bad news man." He sighed.

"What did you say?" I asked again. My fists getting tighter at my side. His eyes fell down to my hands and he must have realised I wasn't asking as his best friend anymore.

"I just did you a favour." He finally said. He even laughed like it was obvious. "This girl has done something to you Dano and you need to run in the opposite direction."

I took a second. Made sure to release my fists and stretch out my fingers and I nodded. "You know how I feel about her and you just made her doubt it. That's not a favour." If I didn't get out of here soon, I would let my anger slip too far. I moved past him and grabbed my jacket from the back of a chair.

"Dano man come on!" He tried to reason but I ignored him. "She's a kid!"

That word triggered something inside of me. I turned back to face him and advanced quick enough that both the other two men stood up, ready to intervene. "I don't give a fuck what you think about me and her."

"I'm trying to protect you." He said, all games and amusement gone from his face as he knew he was treading on thin ice.

"You want to help me?" I asked meeting him at eye level. "Help me get her back."

When he didn't respond I turned back away and headed towards my car. The necklace under my t-shirt burning my skin.

"What an arsehole." Megan said looking disgusted as I finished telling her and Scarlett about what happened at the garage. I didn't even turn to face her as I continued staring at my bedroom ceiling.

"He was trying to be nice about it, he didn't want to hurt my feelings." I defended, although I had to admit, his tactics weren't pleasant.

"What? No. I'm talking about Zach." I turned my head to her with a frown.

Scarlett, sat on my windowsill also looked at me as if I should know. "Why Zach?"

"No offence to your intelligence Hayls, but are you stupid?" I sat up but before I could defend myself Megan laughed. "Zach is obviously full of shit. Danny looked you in the eye yesterday and told you he still thinks about you all the time. He invited you to the races..."

I shook my head but Scarlett piped up. "And he offered you his coffee. Even I wouldn't do that."

Megan and I both rolled our eyes as I sat up straight. "Why would Zach say that stuff then?"

Megan turned back to my wardrobe, searching for a top to wear tonight with a shrug. "Maybe he thought it was what Danny wanted."

A fist knocked gently on the door and before I could even yell come in the door opened. My mum entered the room with a smile. "Hi girls, I didn't know you were here." My friends said hello just as Alex also let herself in, plopping herself down at my desk. "What are your plans for tonight?" She continued, looking at me.
