"I'm going to bed now." My dad said as he poked his head round my door.

I had my laptop on my lap as I worked on my biology project. Just because my world was upside down, didn't mean I didn't I still have homework to do. "Okay. Night." I said glancing up with a smile.

"Before I forget, I'm going to the garage tomorrow with mum's car. Want to come?" I quickly shook my head.

"No thanks." I looked back down. Not willing to meet his eyes at the reminders of what that garage held.

"Why not? You always do the car stuff with me. Getting them washed, getting them checked? It's like our things."

I looked up again as he chuckled. "I don't want to go dad." I said sterner this time. He opened his mouth but my phone started to ring. As soon as Daniels name flashed across my screen I hit decline and looked back to my laptop.

"Avoiding someone?"

"Maybe. Aren't you going to bed?"

I didn't mean to be so blunt and I even felt bad as he shut the door behind him but my phone buzzed again, showing I had a new voicemail. I could only wait a total of 10 minutes before I picked it up to listen.

"I know I shouldn't call." He started, his voice sounding so distant. "But I can't help the hope that you might actually pick up." He took a deep sigh before continuing. "I get it now. I didn't before but I know that you need space and I'll give it to you. I just want you to know that while I might stop saying it, I still love you. I still want us to work it out but it has to be on your terms. And just in case I don't get another chance to say it. I want to thank you, for giving me something I didn't know I needed. I shouldn't have let you fall in love me, you're right. But thank you so much for doing it anyway." I heard him sniff and I hated that it triggered a clog in my throat. "Even if it's really over. Being loved by you, was by far the best thing that has happened to me. I'll leave you alone from now on. Goodnight."

It ended so quickly that part of me knew it was because he needed to end it to stop himself from saying more.

I closed my laptop and got under the duvet before listening to it again. And again and again, until I fell asleep to his words. To his love.

I was in the staff room of Zach's garage when the door went. He jumped up from his place on the sofa and headed through the little door to the front. I froze when I heard him greet the customer. "Hey Dave. Didn't know you had an appointment today?"

I moved over to the door, hoping it wasn't the Dave I thought. "No appointment, I called yesterday and spoke to one of your employees, he said just to pop by in the afternoon. Ben I think?" It was definitely Haylie's dad. I don't know why I felt the need to stay hidden, but I did.

"Oh no worries. What can I do for you?"

"Wife's car." Dave replied simply. "It's making this weird sound whenever she's reversing, not sure if it's the brakes or the clutch?" There was a hardness to his voice that surprised me. "Nice car you have outside."

"Which one?" Zach chuckled in response.

"You know," Dave started, and I got a really bad feeling. "I would have lot more respect for you if you didn't play dumb." I heard a heart rate pick up and I had a feeling it was Zach's. "The black land rover is yours isn't it?"

I cursed when I remembered how Haylie's little sister had called out my car in front of them. I wasn't sure if it was just Zach catching on quick or what but I heard him let out a deep sigh. "yeah it's mine, I don't know what this is about."
