EDITED

"Are you going to be okay?" I asked my sister as we reached the point where we had to go our separate ways. She nodded, looking up from the pathetic piece of paper mum printed out for her of the school.

"Have a great first day." Megan said with a grin, "don't forget, if someone starts shit, tell them your sister Haylie Smith will beat them up."

I laughed, nudging Megan as we headed towards the atrium. Alex laughed before beginning to try and follow the map. "You're an idiot." I chuckled, making Megan and Scarlett laugh again. "If some other 14-year-old comes looking for Haylie smith, I'll point them towards you."

"So, did you hear anymore from Adam after the other day?" Scarlett asked as we took our time through the courtyard.

I lifted the bag higher on my shoulder as I shook my head. "No. Thank god." Megan jerked her head over to me in surprise. "That's right. You heard it here first ladies. I officially have no time, tolerance or desire for that boy."

Both girls instantly cheered getting the attention of the small group of boys in front of us. Luke instantly broke out into a cheeky smile and ran straight at us.

"Luke!" I laughed as he crushed me against his chest. His football uniform obviously hadn't been washed in a while. When he pulled away I moved on to greet Matt and Ollie.

"Welcome to the last year of school." Matt joked as he held open the door to assembly hall. "You're going to hate it."

Matt, Luke and Ollie were just three of the many people that failed their last year of sixth form this year. Nearly a quarter of the students were having to retake the entire year just to be sure they made it to university with enough credits.

I followed Megan as she navigated to seats towards the back that had enough for all six of us. I sat in between Scarlett and Megan while Matt leaned over the former to speak to us all. "Seriously. I know you want to play games with us this year but we have to focus on our studies." He said trying to be serious. As they were a year older than us, there was a bit of excitement at potentially being in the same classes for the first time.

Megan scoffed and pushed him away from her. "I think we can resist."

The head of sixth form walked in shortly after. He gave his usual speech about how important these years are. How we need to start thinking about university. How we represent the school and all that shit we already knew. "And now, I'm sure a lot of you knew that Mr Williams has decided to retire." There were multiple groans after this, me and Megan included since he was our favourite music teacher.

"Please tell me this doesn't mean we have Miss; 'your pitch is too low'." I laughed at Megan's remark but continued to listen.

"So, I would like to introduce, Mr Parker, who will be taking over music and maths."

We started to clap as a man in the front row stood just enough to be able to give a short wave.

"Fuck." I blurted, causing a few students in front to turn back to us and laugh. I froze completely, and considering Megan and Scarlett said nothing, I guess they did as well.

Daniel barely turned enough to look to our direction of the hall. But that was him. I would never forget him.

"Holy shit." Scarlett whispered.

Matt sat forward enough to get a good look at me again. "What the fuck?" He whispered with a breathy laugh.

Megan's hand reached out and gripped my leg before I could come up with some kind of excuse. "He's just really hot." She whispered back.
