When Ye Wenxin openly admitted her reason for coming to Cangyu Sect, everyone showed expressions of sudden realization. Considering her earlier performance, their respect for her grew even more. In moments, all tacitly acknowledged Ye Wenxin's crucial role in the group.

Ye Wenxin noticed the change in their expressions, feeling like she had stolen Gu Aotian's spotlight. However, with Gu Xiangsi constantly clinging to her, she couldn't find a moment to chat with Gu Aotian.

She had initially approached the group because of Gu Aotian, but it now seemed as though she was pursuing Gu Xiangsi instead.

Fortunately, Gu Aotian still bore the protagonist's halo, taking charge of tasks like killing beasts and finding safe lodging.

"Xiangsi, why don't you go find Sister Su Mei?" Ye Wenxin's arm was growing numb. Gu Xiangsi was like a sticky candy that wouldn't let go.

"No, I want to stay with you, sis." Gu Xiangsi glanced at Su Mei, the other girl in the group, with an unfriendly attitude.

"Xiangsi, let go of Miss Wenxin. She might have something she wants to do," Gu Aotian said helplessly. He found his sister's behavior a bit unruly and was troubled that even he, her brother, could not get within a meter of her, let alone force them apart.

Finding some sense in their words, Gu Xiangsi finally let go, albeit with a longing look that reminded Ye Wenxin of an abandoned puppy, stirring her guilt.

But she couldn't always indulge Gu Xiangsi. Pretending not to notice, she told the group she wanted to take a walk nearby. They had no objections, likely assuming she needed a private moment.

In truth, Ye Wenxin no longer had such mundane needs; she just wanted a moment of solitude.

The cool night breeze blew gently as autumn set in. Climbing a tree, Ye Wenxin surveyed the area, planning the safest route for the next day.

Staying on the outskirts only worked temporarily. If they lingered too long, powerful beasts would come, making it untenable.

But how to proceed?

Using intellect over brute force was something Ye Wenxin needed to learn.

As the breeze blew, she noticed a figure approaching. Squinting, she saw Su Mei coming toward her.

Su Mei was quiet and had a weak presence, yet she was the strongest in the group besides Ye Wenxin.

Ye Wenxin couldn't quite figure Su Mei out, sensing she harbored some secret. Yet, as long as it didn't involve Ye Wenxin, she was content to play dumb.

"Su Mei, what brings you here?" Ye Wenxin asked, jumping down from the tree.

"Miss Xiangsi is worried about you," Su Mei replied, her voice pleasant but devoid of extra emotion.

Appearing gentle, yet keeping others at arm's length.

"Tell her I'll be a while," Ye Wenxin said, climbing back up the tree to plan the safest route.

Shortly after, Su Mei joined her. "You're mapping tomorrow's route?"

Ye Wenxin smiled slightly. Su Mei was sharp and observant.
