Morning came, and Ye Wenxin rose early to head to the canteen for breakfast. The surroundings were not too crowded, as many were still lost in their dreams. At Cangyu Sect, apart from mandatory classes, all other cultivation and learning depended entirely on individual discipline.
Outer sect disciples strove hard to enter the inner sect, while inner sect disciples yearned for recognition from the sect leaders. Becoming a true disciple would mark a life-changing opportunity. Unfortunately, out of Cangyu Sect's twelve leaders, except for Fairy Feng Ya, all had already chosen their true disciples.
However, of the twelve sect leaders at Cangyu Sect, only Fairy Fengya lacked a personal disciple. Despite the abundance of talent suitable to become her disciple, Fairy Fengya differed from the other leaders. She preferred seclusion and cultivation over sect affairs, showing little interest in outside matters.
Upon learning of Fairy Feng Ya's disinterest in sect matters, Ye Wenxin felt a wave of frustration. She feared missing another chance to meet her. It had been four months since she fled, yet she still hadn't seen Fairy Feng Ya or even knew what she looked like.
"Wenxin, did you sleep well last night?" A voice interrupted Ye Wenxin's thoughts. She looked up to see Long Qing'er, dressed in her red true disciple robes, her pretty face adorned with a playful smile.
"Of course, I slept like a log. I'm not a three-year-old who needs cuddling," Ye Wenxin replied, shifting slightly to make room for Long Qing'er.
Long Qing'er sat beside Ye Wenxin without reservation, handing her a chicken leg before touching her own food.
"Eat up. To us cultivators, your cultivation level is akin to a toddler's," Long Qing'er teased, her smile devoid of malice.
The two laughed and chatted, and others quickly made way upon seeing Long Qing'er. Even Huang Hanyan, who had some acquaintance with Ye Wenxin, sat far away, nodding gently when their eyes met, but making no move to rekindle their friendship.
While munching on the chicken leg, Ye Wenxin mumbled a question about Long Qing'er's relationship with Huang Hanyan.
"Weren't you and Sister Huang close before? Why the distance now?" Ye Wenxin asked openly, prompting a wry smile from Long Qing'er.
"I mentioned before, my status is special. Being close to Sister Huang caused her some trouble. She was already in an awkward position in Cangyu Sect, so I decided to keep my distance," Long Qing'er explained, a hint of melancholy in her eyes. Though both were disciples of Cangyu Sect, each belonged to different factions.
And Huang Hanyan's family was opposed to the Shengshi Dynasty, making friendship between their children unlikely.
"I see. It's tough on you, Sister Qing'er... But wait, aren't you getting close to me too? Won't that cause trouble?" Ye Wenxin pondered, realizing that Long Qing'er's closeness might suggest Ye Wenxin's allegiance to the Shengshi Dynasty.
"You're different. Everyone knows your alchemy skills, and every faction wants to court you. Besides, it seems Wenxin likes me a lot," Long Qing'er replied confidently, believing her charm had won Ye Wenxin over.
In truth, Ye Wenxin simply knew only a few people, and Long Qing'er was her friend's niece, naturally garnering her attention. But the complexities of her feelings were something Ye Wenxin couldn't easily express.
