No one is perfect; even the ever-gentle Ling Jue has her moments of distortion, which is only natural.
Ye Wenxin didn't know what to say to comfort Ling Jue, so she simply sat quietly beside her.
The spring breeze brought a slight chill, prompting Ye Wenxin to instinctively touch her neck, feeling the sting of pain. The physical pain left a stronger impression on Ye Wenxin than Ling Jue's earlier words. Ling Jue had suppressed her feelings for too long and eventually chose to express them through an outburst of violence.
"Sister Ling, it's getting late. We should rest," Ye Wenxin suggested, glancing at the moonlit sky.
"I'm not tired. You go ahead and sleep," Ling Jue replied, hugging her knees. Her clothes had mostly dried, but her figure still seemed frail in the moonlight.
Ye Wenxin thought for a moment and then sat back down beside Ling Jue, picking up stones to toss into the water. One by one, she silently kept Ling Jue company.
After a while by the lake, Ling Jue finally regained her usual gentle demeanor and took a deep breath, apologizing to Ye Wenxin. "I'm sorry I lost control tonight."
Ye Wenxin was about to say it was only human, but Ling Jue quickly added, "But I won't give up."
The words Ye Wenxin wanted to say stuck in her throat, leaving her to continue tossing stones in frustration, pondering how to gently refuse Ling Jue.
She listed out all the possible ways to refuse, only to dismiss each one herself.
The night felt unbearably long, stretching out in an almost torturous way...
"Sister Ling, what if I told you I’m not a good person and that I infiltrated Cangyu Sect with ulterior motives? What would you do?" After contemplating for a while, Ye Wenxin decided to lay her cards on the table.
"I know. After all, I came to Cangyu Sect with my own motives," Ling Jue replied, her beautiful brows furrowed. She could see Ye Wenxin’s resolve to refuse her, yet she wasn’t willing to give up hope.
"I'm... actually from a demonic sect," Ye Wenxin added, hoping to test Ling Jue's feelings, knowing she didn't have a favorable view of demonic sects.
"That doesn’t matter to me," Ling Jue said, hesitating briefly but speaking with determination.
"And what if my identity is special?" Ye Wenxin resorted to her ultimate trump card.
"It still doesn’t matter. What I care about is how you, Ye Wenxin, see me," Ling Jue interrupted, her voice trembling, fearing what Ye Wenxin might say.
"Even if I'm an enemy of Yaowang Valley?" Ye Wenxin ignored Ling Jue's resolve, her previously lazy gaze turning serious as she looked directly at Ling Jue.
Ye Wenxin released her aura intentionally, hoping to make Ling Jue stop liking her.
To her, Ling Jue's so-called affection was merely a temporary whim, not genuine love.
"Yes, even if you are my enemy, I, Ling Jue, will devote my life to you," Ling Jue said resolutely, her gaze stubborn enough to unsettle Ye Wenxin.
