VI. Your Safety Stop.

      

     THE GROUP now arrive back to Poguelandia 2.0., stopping the boat and tying it off. "Alright, what the hell happened?" John B asked as Sarah and Cleo came running down the dock. "Someone tried to kill us." Kie says, out of breath. "What? Why would someone try to kill you? That doesn't make any sense." Pope now asked. "Obviously, they were going after the same thing we were, right?" JJ asked as Jake looked down, panting.

"That amulet was worth something. That old man is keeping some secret." Cleo said as Pope glanced between Jake and Kie. "Then someone else is waiting down there? I knew that story was bunk." The girl says as JJ came to Jake's side. "Dude, you good?" He said to the Lennox staring up at the sky. "My stomach feels like shit." Kie says as JJ touches Jake's head, to make him turn his face to his. "Hey, did you take your safety stop?" He asks.

"I'm gonna say it one more time. Someone was trying to kill us. We did not make--" "they have the bends." Pope said as he goes to Jake's side, helping him up. "We need to get them to the hospital. Now." He said, pulling up Jake with JJ's help. "Nice and easy. You've just got a couple bubbles in your blood right now." John B now tells Kie who she lifted up, with Sarah's help. "I've got bubbles in my blood?" Kie asked as they rush up the ramp.

"Hey, Pope, am I gonna die?" Jake asked, being put into the van now. "No, no, you're gonna be fine." Pope tells him as they put him down onto the seats and John B was rushing into the driver's side while Cleo and Sarah got Kie into the van. "Hey, hey, you're not gonna die. I told you you weren't gonna die on my watch. Alright?" JJ said, at his side as Jake just softly nodded his head.

"Come on, John B!"

"I'm going!"

As Sarah and Cleo are by Kie's side, JJ stayed by Jake's side. "Deep breaths. Deep breaths." Sarah tells Kie who's clutching her stomach. "Hey, who was down there with you guys?" Pope glanced back. "No idea, Pope." He says, sighing quietly as JJ is holding his shoulder the whole entire time. "But you guys are not gonna believe this." He says, panting as he now reached into his swimsuit pant pockets. "What is that?" JJ asked as Sarah took it, unwrapping it to find the amulet inside the bandana.

"You found it?" The Cameron girl asks, staring at it. "Oh, shit. That's the thing he was looking for." Cleo says right away. "Holy shit. Holy shit." John B says quietly as JJ looks at Jake. "Why didn't you tell us sooner?" The Maybank asked. "I was too busy dying." Jake says and JJ gently rubs his shoulder again. "You're not dying on my watch." He tells the boy.

"John B!"

"I'm going. I'm going." John B replied. "You're a rockstar, girl! Fifty thousand!" Cleo exclaims before laughing. "Holy shit. Holy shit." The Routledge says, smiling big. "Fifty K." JJ chuckles at Jake who just smiled. "It was worth it." Kie says, still holding onto her stomach. "Cha-ching." Jake added.

Once they arrive to the hospital, the group all help out Kie and Jake out of the van again and rush them indoors, "hey, hey, hey, I need help." Cleo says. A couple of ER nurses rushed over to the group, then both of them were brought to the hyperbaric chamber after a quick check up with the nurse, the two now laying down inside and Jake lets out a small sigh.

Jake must have fallen asleep at some point, but he felt Kie touch his hand gently so he looks over right away. "Kie." He whispers and the girl hums, looking at him. "You almost died." His voice cracks as he says it. "I should've never let you go down there." He tells her, looking away and she clasps his hand with hers, interlocking their fingers together. "Then who would've saved your life? If I wasn't there, he would have gotten you." She tells the boy.

Jake looks over at her right away. "Yeah. And I saved you too..." He says and she smiles, staring at him. "You did." She says quietly and he just stared back at her. "I love you. I never wanna lose you." He says and she just smiled even more. He loves the way it makes her smile, just hearing those three words from him. "You know, I really thought things were different now. But it really is just us against the world, isn't it?" She asks and he shrugs, but even then, that movement still kind of hurt. "Mm, us and Evie." He tells her, smiling.
