XXVI. Let Him Go.

      

      THE THREE finally reach the top, at the base of the statue where Rafe was. "Hey, I can't get up there, not with this hand!" He said as he raised his wounded hand to the three walking up the hill. "I gotta do it!" JJ turned around to Jake and Kie. "What?" Kie says instantly. "I gotta go up there!" JJ replied.

"No, no, no. We should wait it out!" Jake stepped closer, pulling his scarf down. "There's no time, Jay!" JJ tells him, also pulling his down as he stepped even closer. "Right now, this is our chance. They've taken everything away from us. They're not gonna take this too." He said, his hands going on both of Jake's shoulders. "I gotta do this." He stated, then looked at Kie standing behind Jake. "I gotta do this for all of us." He said and Kie nods.

"I mean, hey, it was my fault to begin with. So, I mean, I guess I should be the one to fix it." JJ tells the two and Kie nods. "Okay, come here." She pulled him into a hug and leaned away. "Be careful." She said as Jake pulls him into a hug as well, this one longer and tighter. "Okay, I'm gonna do this." JJ pats Jake's back and he steps away, nodding softly.

"Okay." He said as Kie steps closer. "I'll be here, waiting on our crown." Kie said, smiling. "Coming right up, Queen Kie." JJ said before heading off and Jake chuckles, pulling Kie closer to him as they now watch their boyfriend walk up to the statue and start climbing up. "Be careful!" Jake shouted to the boy, who worked his way up, about halfway. "Jay!" Kie calls out. "Oh, my God!" Jake said, holding his scarf closer to his face, then the Maybank climbed up onto the ledge, looking down.

"JJ, we gotta hurry!" Kie shouted to their boyfriend. "Shit, here they come." Rafe said, upon hearing the woman from earlier. As the Corsairs call out to one another, Jake looks up anxiously. "Jay! They're coming!" He shouted. "Almost there!" The Maybank boy replied, continuing to climb. "Hey!" Rafe shouted so Jake quickly spun around, hand still on Kie's back as Rafe got closer to them.

"You stay here. I'll go down and buy us some time." He tells the two. "What? No, Rafe! Are you crazy?" Jake didn't know what got into him, stepping closer after the Cameron and grabbing his arm. "They'll kill you!" He warns him. "Hey! I'm a killer too!" Rafe's words caught him off guard, as the older pointed to his head. "I've got nothing to lose!" He adds.

A part of Jake wanted to tell him to be careful, but deep down he knew the Cameron would come out with no scratches, so he turned around quickly. "JJ, hurry!" Kie shouted as the boy got closer and closer to the top.

"JJ! We've got to hurry! We've got to get out of here!" Kie shouted, clutching onto Jake's side as they both looked around for the Corsairs and up at the boy climbing the statue. "Hey! I think I found something!" He shouted then grabbed onto the eye of the statue which he then pulls on, screaming. "JJ, please, come on!" Jake shouted to the Maybank.

The piece of the statue comes falling to the ground, as the blond then digs inside. "Do you see it? What is it?" Kie shouted when the Maybank then slips, losing his stance. "JJ!" Jake yells worriedly. "I'm okay!" The boy replied back as he then climbed on top of the head of the statue. "Jay, just come on!"

The two watch as he laid down, reaching inside the crevasse again, "one sec!" He shouted to the two down below, then he sat up, taking out the crown from inside the statue. He held it up, "it's real!" He shouts then he cheered. "Yeah, baby! We did it!" He shouted, cheering and Jake laughed, watching him. "Long live Poguelandia!" He then whooped once more, before he held up the crown. "JJ! We've got to hurry! We've got to get out of here!" Kie yells.

The blond boy began moving fast, "I'm coming!" He shouted before beginning to climb down, slowly and the same way. "Come on! Be careful!" Kie shouted to him. "You're almost there." Jake yells out to the blond. Once the blond was down to the ground, Jake rushed to him, "are you okay?" He asked as he helped him up and Kie came to Jake's side. "I'm good. I'm good. I'm better, actually. I'm great." He turns to them. "Cause look!" He opened up the scarf where he had the crown.
