twenty-eight : fin's birthday

elle and i walked into a house full of people, i looked around and started scanning everyone around. i was terrified eve would be here, even though elle did casually mention her name to clauida and she was told she wasn't coming. "elle." i stopped her from walking in.

"she isn't here, im right by your side." she assured me. "let's find finneas." she told me and we walked behind nathan. he had already spotted him and we all said happy birthday, elle had a gift from all of us and gave it to claudia.

"thank you guys for coming." finneas told us. "i have to find a friend, but ill be back." he told us before walking away.

he was standing adjacent to me which was conveniently blocking billie from my sight and so the moment he moved our gazes immediately found each other. i didn't even know she was there, im not sure if she knew. i looked away and tried my best not to look back, i acted like i didn't see her. it's what she wants i kept telling myself.

coming here was a bad idea, elle spotted billie and she gave me a look of reassurance. "one hour." she mouthed to me and i nodded.

"delilah!" honey was walking by with two drinks in her hand, but stopped when she saw me. "when'd you get here?"

the other drink was for raymond and she asked if i would walk with her. i looked at elle and she gave me that same reassuring look and so i walked with her. honey is sweet, she's really energetic but not the kind that's overwhelming and annoying. raymond hit the jackpot, also mentioning that she is hot. like hot hot.

"delilah!" raymond hugged me. "shit your makeup is smokey." he was impressed, he meant as a compliment.

"right? that's what i said. elle ready needs to share a tutorial." honey told me as she handed raymond his drink.

"elle doesn't like to share secrets." i raised a brow. "plus you have the perfect makeup routine, i really think you've nailed it down." i nodded.

"thank you." she held my hand.

i just floated around wherever honey was cause we were talking nonstop, with people joining the conversation and then excusing themselves and then the one hour time line didn't matter to me anymore. i had been comfortable and i whispered to elle that she doesn't have to hover over me anymore. she listened, but i would catch her checking on me from far away every now and then.

claudia had told the group of people i was standing with that she was bringing out the cake soon and we should gather everyone outside. so honey and i walked together while telling people to go outside. and then my heart dropped to my feet, i just held honey's upper arm as if i were to excuse myself and then i ran.

she saw me. i know she saw me.

i was in the forest, a bear was following me, i was running for my life. survival instincts hit, between fight or flight, i choose flight before i bleed again. an easy choice but tortures to survive. my shoulder ached from branches and large trees it bumped into. i looked behind me to know the distance i had created between the bear and i, i didn't know that i was about slam into a large tree right in front of me.

"no! no." i fell on the ground, it slowed me down, i scrambled up, ready to keep going.

"delilah!" she brought me back to reality, grabbing my arm before i could leave. i snatched my arm away, "what's happening?" she asked me, searching for the answer in my teary eyes.
