A/N YOU BITCHES ARE LUCKY I WAS JUST ABOUT TO WRITE A FIC ABOUT MEREDITH DYING BUT I COULDN'T GET AROUND TO DOING IT CAUSE IT WAS TAKING TOO LONG

i had no clue what to call this

Taylor's POV

Pain shoots up my ankle the moment I step off the stage, but I bite down on my lip and keep walking. The adrenaline from the show is still pulsing through me, masking the worst of it, but as soon as I make it to the dressing room, I know something is wrong.

I lower myself onto the couch and carefully pull off my boot. My ankle is already swelling, a deep flush of red blooming across the skin. I suck in a breath and press my fingers gently against the joint—bad idea. Fire races up my leg, and I nearly yelp.

I can't tell Travis. Not right now. He worries too much as it is, and he's been so busy with his own schedule. If he hears I'm hurt, he'll drop everything and fly out here, and I don't want that. I don't want him to feel like he has to take care of me when I can handle this myself.

Besides, it's just a sprain.

I can handle my shit.

Probably.

"Taylor, you good?" My assistant, Ella, pops her head in, eyeing me suspiciously. I force a smile.

"Yeah! Just tired," I lie. "Long show."

She doesn't look convinced, but she nods and disappears. I exhale slowly, rolling my ankle as carefully as I can to test it. Another bad idea. My eyes squeeze shut as another wave of pain hits.

I just need to ice it. Elevate it. Take some ibuprofen. I can deal with this on my own.

I have to.

Travis's POV

Something is off.

I know Taylor like the back of my hand, and tonight, she's acting weird. Not in a bad mood, not exhausted—just...off.

I call her as soon as I get back to my hotel room, kicking off my sneakers and sinking onto the bed. The game was good tonight, but I can't stop thinking about her. I missed her show, and I hate that. If I had been there, maybe I would have caught whatever she's trying to hide.

She picks up after the third ring. "Hey, Kelc." Her voice is warm, but something about it is just a little too breezy.

"Hey, superstar. How was the show?"

"Good! Great, actually. The crowd was insane."

I smile, picturing it. "Bet they lost their minds seeing the new outfits right?"

She laughs, and for a second, everything feels normal. "You already know."

But I hear it, that slight hitch in her voice.

"You okay?" I ask, leaning back against the pillows. "You sound... I don't know. Different."

She hesitates. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just tired."

Bullshit.

I sit up straighter. "Tay."

"What?"

I pause, debating whether to push or let it go. I settle for middle ground. "You'd tell me if something was wrong, right?"

Another pause, just a second too long. "Of course."

I don't believe her. But I also know she's stubborn as hell, and if she doesn't want me to know something, she'll go out of her way to keep it from me.
