Chapter 30: Fix You
I never really face reality, but I was undoubtedly screwed up. All of my life had been a blur of dissapointments. I had never really been good enough for my mother, my father- the only light I had in the world- had been shot right in front of me, my ex-boyfriend beat me up ruthlessly everyday, I had the wait of suicide on my shoulders, and I had taken crap from every person who was once there for me, but then left without a trace.
However, I never fell apart when I was with Keene. I could keep myself from shredding if he kept his arms around me long enough. He was- as cheesy as it sounds- my Superman.
Keene’s lips on my temple brought me out of my thought process.
“Hey gorgeous,” he greeted me.
“Hi.” I smiled.
“So, is there any chance you wanna go do something today?” He asked, sitting next me on the couch.
I thought about it, “Well…later.” I wanted this trip to be about us spending every minute together.
I smirked, “But right now….”
I wrapped my arms around his neck and smooshed my lips against his.
We were stopped by a sharp tapping on the door. “One kiss! Please?!” I beg.
“I’ve got it!” Keene said enthusiastically. He ran for the door and pulled it open.
I could only hear his end of the conversation.
“Why? Who’s asking? Does she know you? Kam!”
“I’m coming, babe!” I respond.
I practically skipped to the door, but what I saw when I got there made me want to die.
Keene
Kamie stood a step behind me, frozen.
The guy at the door had short black hair, and green eyes. He was about an inch shorter than me. He smiled wryly when he saw her.
“Hey, Kam.” He sighed happily. She tightly grabbed my hand.
What is she so paralyzed by?
“Hi.” She said to the floor.
I pulled her into me. “Don’t be afraid.” I wanted to say.
“Oh, who’s this?” The guy asks, starting to become irate, eyeing me angrily through tightened eyes.
“My… husband.” She says quietly. I was slightly offended. Why is she so imbarrased?
“Who’s this?” I whisper to Kamie.
She swallowed hard and stared at me with fearful eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but a loud crash came from the door. We both look forward to see the guy cowering over smashed glass, his fists balled up by his side; he punched our window.
“So, I’m too late, huh?”
“Leave. Leave… and never come back.” Kamie whispers. I pulled Kamie behind me, blocking her from any danger.
“Maybe you should just leave.” I suggest, throwing my hands up above my head.
He stared at her clenching his fists tighter, his whole frame shaking with rage. He glares at me, then Kamie, who was peering over my shoulder.
“You’re so damn lucky!” He says to her, jabbing a finger harshly her way.
He turned and headed back to he came from.
I shut the door and turn to face Kamie, but she was a few steps away on the floor, her arms hugging her knees to her chest.
She had her eyes closed and was muttering something.
I’d guessed she was recovering from a panic attack.
I bent down next to her.
“Who… was…that?” I repeat firmly.
She looks up at me, the tears building in her eyes.
“Tyler.” She murmurs. I certainly wasn’t expecting that. I wrap my arms around her in attempt to fix her.
“You know, once I moved out… I thought all that bad stuff in my life would just dissapear. And all of those memories would stop torminting me, but they always find away to come back and kill me.” She says, looking straight at me. Her hand starts shaking. The tears in her eyes were flowing carelessly down her face. “And all my life all I wanted to do was make people happy, but they either died, crushed me, hated the ground I walked on, or left… and I can’t make them all happy… everyone just leaves and they ne-”
“Shh.” I comforted, taking her trembling hand both of in mine, making the muscles relax. “Stop.” I whispered.
“It’s okay.” I uttered, pulling her onto my lap. She nuzzled her forehead into my neck.
“Can’t you just think about you? I mean, you do make me happy, so whoelse matters? Are you happy? No you’re spending our honeymoon sobbing on the floor. And, all I want is for you to be happy.” I confess.
She sniffled as wrapped her arms tighter around my chest.
“I thought he was going to hit me again.” She mutters. She was trembling in my arms.
I pulled her face up to mine. “I won’t let that happen.” I assure her.
She kisses my lips.
“I promise.” I vow.
