THIRD PERSON POV
Liliana stared at the neatly bound contract resting on the mahogany table, her brows knitting together as she looked from the papers to her parents.
"What?" she asked, blinking in disbelief. "Why?"
Silence lingered in the room.
Then her gaze dropped to the page once more, stopping at the name written beneath hers.
"...I'm marrying their daughter?"
Her voice was quieter this time, almost uncertain, as if reading the words aloud would somehow make them disappear.
Across from her, her father let out a slow sigh.
"It was an agreement made years before you were born," he explained. "The Arceta family and theirs have stood side by side for generations. The contract was created to preserve that alliance."
Liliana frowned.
"So... no one thought to ask me?"
Her mother reached across the table, gently placing a hand over hers.
"We know this isn't what you expected."
Liliana gave a small, humorless laugh.
"Expected?" she echoed. "I was expecting another lecture about keeping my grades up—not..." She gestured toward the contract. "...an arranged marriage."
She leaned back in her chair, trying to process everything.
"Their daughter..." she murmured. "Aiah."
She knew exactly who Aiah was.
Everyone did.
The academy's brightest student. The pride of her family. A hero admired across the country.
And then there was Liliana Arceta.
The only powerless daughter born into the nation's most celebrated hero dynasty.
She lowered her eyes to the contract once again.
"...Does she even know?"
Her father nodded.
"She does."
Liliana swallowed hard before letting out a quiet sigh.
"I wonder..." she whispered, forcing a faint smile that failed to hide the hurt in her eyes.
"...Is she as unhappy about this as I am?"
"You'll meet her later, anak," her mother said gently.
Liliana let out a frustrated sigh, her fingers tightening around the edge of the contract. Everything was happening too fast. One moment, she was preparing for another ordinary day, and the next, she had discovered she was bound by an agreement made long before she was born.
