When most people lose a parent they inherit sorrow, loss and a closet full of outdated clothes. But on the Upper East Side, death's sad chapter comes with a silver lining. Or a gold one, if your relatives invested wisely in precious metals.
It was the day of Bart Bass' will reading and, upon her cousin's request, Ophelia found herself pulling up to the curb of the Palace in preparation to support Chuck Bass in one of the most difficult times of his life. The heiress had a moment of questioning why she was even there but if it meant supporting her cousin she would do so. Hopping out of the limousine and dismissing Alex on his break the heiress did a quick run to catch up to her cousin and newly appeared Chuck Bass.
"Let's get this over with." The Bass boy commented, nodding towards Ophelia as she joined alongside Blair. "Courage, nephew." Jack tried reassuring but the heiress shook her head at his futile attempts to be kind. "I'm gonna be running Bass Industries. And you're about to inherit a billion dollars." Jack laughed nervously, ensuring he outlined what he felt was rightfully his before they even stepped inside the building. "I know my father. There'll be so many strings attached, I'll look like a marionette. He wouldn't miss his last chance to put me in my place."
Without another word the group of four began to make their way towards the doors of the Palace, ready to learn Chuck's fate as they were interrupted by a rather familiar voice. "Hey. Thought you might need some backup." Nate spoke towards his friend, smiling sweetly when his eyes lay on that of the heiress. "Thanks. Let's go." Chuck accepted, beginning to acknowledge his friends once more after that night on the roof of Vatrola. "It's good that you're here." Ophelia admitted, walking alongside Nate as both teens were the outsiders in this situation. "I could say the same for you." The Archibald smiled once more, placing a hand on the small of the heiress' back as he guided her through the glamorous double doors of the hotel.
"I wouldn't have come to this party if I knew I wasn't VIP." Blair complained as she sat outside the will reading alongside Ophelia and Nate. "I choose to blame Jack." Ophelia aired, looking towards a nearby blank sketchbook with envy, wishing she could take this time to sketch some designs but knowing it would be insensitive. "The important thing is that Chuck knows we're here for him, I don't think us being excluded is Jack's fault." Nate tried to reason but the heiress simply shrugged her shoulders. "I'll blame that man for anything."
Standing up from the rather uncomfortable chairs the teens were excluded to Blair rushed towards the thick wooden doors, putting her ear up against the wood in an attempt to listen in to the reading. "Blair." Nate called out, knowing her attempts would be useless. "Shh. I can't hear." The Waldorf girl dismissed, doing her best to listen to the lawyers inside the room. After a few short moments the doors opened wide causing Ophelia to chuckle slightly at her cousin's shocked expression. "Chuck. Is everything okay?".
