They say that there are no accidents. Sometimes reality comes crashing into us. Other times it dawns on us slowly. Despite our best efforts to ignore it.
To say Ophelia Waldorf-Huntington was less than excited waking up on the anniversary of Bart Bass' death was an understatement in itself. She knew Blair would be by Chuck's side the entire day, not that she could blame her, but the memories of the crash had slowly begun to piece themselves together the night before and now the heiress found herself on edge and wanting nothing more than to hide away.
"Breakfast in bed has arrived." Nate announced, pushing open their bedroom door holding a tray covered in French toast, fresh fruit and a much-needed cup of coffee. "I thought you'd want a quiet day today." The Archibald sympathized, watching as his girlfriend's smile remained smaller than usual. "Usually, I'd disagree, but Spencer has already taken control of the hotel duties for today and I'm ahead in my classes, right now there's nothing more that I need." Kissing Nate softly on the lips the heiress couldn't contain the smile that appeared the moment she took a bite of the breakfast in front of her. "This is heaven."
Cutting a piece for her boyfriend Ophelia ensured he got to enjoy the gorgeous food just as much as she did. "Have you spoken to Chuck today?". "He's got some business meeting this morning and when I asked how he was his response was simply 'why'." Nate's words confirmed the heiress' exact thoughts - the Bass boy was ignoring the date. "I just hope when he finally lets himself feel it's not after a blow up." Ophelia admitted, not wanting her cousin to be in the firing line when it all tipped over. "Blair can handle him, if anyone can."
We make our own fortunes and then call them fate. And what better excuse to choose a path than to insist it's our destiny? But at the end of the day, we all have to live with our choices. No matter who's looking over our shoulder.
"Need some company?". Carrington's voice called through from the front room of the heiress' apartment causing Ophelia to pause the reruns she was watching on the flat screen and call her best friend into the room. "Where's Nate?". The blonde girl wondered, looking around to an empty room as Ophelia lifted the comforter on the bed for her best friend to slide into. "He had to study; these courses he's been taking are kicking his ass and yet he doesn't even know what he wants to do." The heiress admitted, smiling wider when Carrington showed the small box of cupcakes she'd brought with her. "You're an angel Care."
"I figured the anniversary of you almost dying on me was cause for cupcakes, though I still don't forgive you for that." Carrington informed whilst she handed her best friend a red velvet cupcake. "I'll try harder not to get hit by Bart Bass next time, oh wait." Ophelia joked morbidly receiving a gentle hit on the arm from the blonde. "O! You cannot say that." "What's he gonna do? Haunt me from his grave? He already broke my arm and fractured my ribs."
