(Jasmine's POV → Von's POV)

Jasmine's POV
"Jas... Jasmine!" Nicki screamed my name.
I couldn't breathe. My breath caught in my throat again.
Von had Duke by the neck while Nicki reached out toward me.
I slowly dropped my head to my chest, my feet backing toward the door before my mind could even think.
"Let me go, gang!" Duke yelled from across the room.
It's just a panic attack, I reminded myself.
My hands shook uncontrollably as I reached for the door.
Nicki beat me to it. My body nearly collapsed through the frame.
"Jas, calm down," she said, rubbing circles on my back.
I shook my head. "I can't!" I yelled out, breathless.
Tears streamed down my face—but Nicki wiped them away before they could even fall.
"What the hell is going on in here?" Leah burst through the door.
"Jas, what the hell!?" she screamed.
My heart was racing. Still no air.
"She's literally turning purple in the face!" Leah cried.
"Von! Where's her asthma pump!?" Nicki yelled.
I tried to move, but my body was going numb.
It didn't feel like asthma.
Didn't feel like a panic attack either.
It felt like... an allergic reaction.
But I didn't eat shellfish. So what the fuck is going on with me?
"Hell no—where's her EpiPen!?" Leah screamed, tearing through my bag.
Von rushed back into the room as Nicki reached for her phone.
I felt lightheaded. Von grabbed my hand.
"Hold on, baby," he whispered, rubbing my neck.
"Check the blue bag!" he shouted at Leah.
"What the fuck! Did you eat shellfish and forget to wash your hands or something!?" she snapped.
I was gasping now.
Couldn't feel my face.
Everything was slipping.
Leah jammed the EpiPen into my arm, but I already knew—it wasn't enough.
Von held my body up, arms wrapped tight around my waist.
"How far is the ambulance?" he asked Nicki.
"They didn't say," she whispered.
"Why isn't it working?"
"Fuck it. Leah, go start the car!" Von shouted.
He lifted me into his arms and rushed toward the door.
In that moment, it felt like my last.
The voices around me started to fade.
"Whatever the fuck this is between y'all—dead the shit!" I heard Nicki scream, standing between Von and Duke.
"Nigga, MOVE!" Von yelled.
"I'm trying to help your dumb ass!" Duke shot back, snatching the keys from Leah.
Von didn't even respond. He just kept moving.
We slid into the car.
Von never let go of me.
"She's not looking good," Leah cried from the front seat.
Von pulled me closer to his chest. "She'll be okay," he said.
His voice was calm, but his grip told the truth.
"Drive faster!" he screamed.
"I'm already doing a hundred, gang!" Duke yelled.
Still gasping. Coughing.
Blood in the mix.
I didn't even want to see what I looked like.
I could only think about my babies.
We came to a sudden stop.
Before I could react, Von had me out the car and was sprinting into the hospital.
"WE NEED SOME FUCKING HELP OVER HERE!" he yelled.
A nurse came running—
But I was already fading.
And then I blacked out.
⸻
Von's POV
I stood in the hospital lobby, waiting.
Jas hasn't had a reaction like that since high school.
I kept replaying everything.
Had I eaten seafood before I kissed her?
No.
I didn't even touch it.
My eyes drifted toward Duke, slouched in the waiting room chair.
She looked like she saw a ghost when she saw us arguing.
Was it him?
Did he touch her stuff?
Was he in our room—before or after I left?
Was she...?
Nah.
Jas wouldn't do that.
Right?
"Family of Jasmine Bennett," a doctor called.
I rushed over. Leah and Duke right behind me.
The doctor looked at us.
"I'm assuming you're her husband?" he asked, looking directly at Duke.
Duke didn't say a word—just smirked.
That little smirk.
I saw it.
"Nah. I'm right here," I said firmly.
The doctor nodded and glanced at his notes.
"Well, we were able to stabilize her. If you hadn't brought her in when you did, she wouldn't have made it."
I nodded slowly.
"Please be careful with shellfish. Even trace contact can cause a severe reaction like this one. We'll keep her overnight. She should be good to travel home tomorrow."
"Thank you," I mumbled.
"Only one visitor tonight," the doctor added before walking away.
Leah looked at me. "Let's go, dude. We'll come back for you both in the morning."
I nodded and headed for Jasmine's room.
Didn't even look back.
She was half-asleep when I walked in.
Swelling mostly gone.
But the pain still lived on her face.
She smiled anyway.
That smile...
"I thought we agreed—no seafood on this trip," she said, voice raspy.
"We did," I mumbled.
"Must've been Duke... or one of those hoes," I added under my breath.
I slid into bed beside her, arms around her waist.
This time, she didn't flinch.
"I still don't get how this happened," I whispered.
Her body shifted—like something clicked.
"Maybe... one of the kids?" she said, almost too fast.
I nodded and laid my head on her chest.
I didn't believe her.
But I let it go—for now.
"Don't do that shit again. I never want to think about losing you."
