"Hmph." I cleared my throat and stood, looking away from Fernos before I looked at him and raised an eyebrow in question, and the Demon King raised an eyebrow in question and stayed silent. "Now, are you going to come with me while I talk to Silas?" I asked and cocked my head to the side while I studied him. "Or are you going to go back to Caroline?"
"I am coming with you," Fernos said coldly with a shake of his head. "I want to know what you are going to get Caroline into and see why Silas is doing what he has been doing."
I slowly nodded and bit the inside of my lip. I didn't say a word and started to walk in the direction that Silas had gone in, hoping that he hadn't made it too far away from us while I had tried to figure out who that man was and why he had seemed so familiar to me, even though I had never met him before now.
But that didn't stop me from knowing his presence...
Fernos followed me and stayed silent, and his whole body grew tense. He placed his hands behind his back and clasped his hands together. His gaze was hard and on my back, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking about, even though I had a feeling he wouldn't answer me if I asked.
"What are you thinking about, Fernos?" I asked and glanced at him from the corner of my eye, deciding that I was going to ask anyway. I turned my attention back to the way we were going because I did not want to miss him if he decided to go a different way than what we were following.
"It is none of your concern, so do not worry about it, Kyler," Fernos said coldly, and my heart seemed to break into two. He cleared his throat and looked around before he looked at my back. "Now, can you pick up your pace, please? I think we need to find him before he does something else that will hurt us in the future."
I slowly nodded, holding back an eye roll. I didn't say a word and started to pick up my pace until I was walking quickly, picking up his scent and following it to the men's bathroom with Fernos following me close behind.
I stopped as soon as I reached the restrooms and looked at him with my cheeks turning red, and Fernos slowly blinked and looked at the door before he looked at me with a blank look on his face.
"Can you check to see if there is anyone else in the bathroom besides him?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Please? We might be able to talk to him in the bathroom or at least go to his tent and talk there about what had happened and why he is doing everything that he is doing."
Fernos slowly nodded and walked into the bathroom to see if there was anyone else in there besides Silas. He walked out of the bathroom a while later and looked at me with a bored expression on his face. "He is the only one in there, but he is taking a shower," he said. "If you want to go in, then go ahead and go into the bathroom. I'll keep watch and make sure that no one else enters."
I shook my head, and my cheeks turned another shade of red when I heard that he was taking a shower. "Can you watch him and tell me when he is done?" I asked, instead. "Please? I want to see if he will talk to me about what it is that I heard, but I don't want to talk to him in the bathroom while he is taking a shower but in his tent."
"Even if there are some types of recording devices or whatever in the tent he is staying in for the time being?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied me, and I nodded in confirmation.
"It is better than going to Caroline's tent and talking to him there," I said and shrugged. "I don't want to get her involved yet until we have a basis covered and then get more information about what is going on with him."
Fernos nodded and pressed his lips into a thin line. "Then why don't you go ahead and talk to him in my tent?" he asked, finally, something that I hadn't expected him to say because we weren't on the friendliest of terms.
I hesitated and shifted on my feet, dampening the hope that wanted to take over in my chest. "Are you sure?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, and Fernos nodded.
"It will be safer for you there."
I breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded. "Ok," I said. "Can you keep an eye on him as a ju-" I closed my mouth when Fernos raised his hand, biting back an annoyed sigh while he stared at me, waiting for me to be quiet.
"I am already doing that," he said. "He will be leaving the bathroom here shortly."
I breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded while I waited for Silas to exit the bathroom, and I didn't have to wait much longer because Silas walked out of the bathroom with a towel in his hand and was moving the towel through his hair.
He looked this way and that before he looked right at me and jumped back, shocked and surprised that someone was there. "Shit," he said and placed his hand over his chest and took a deep breath before he released it with a small whoosh. "What the fuck?" he asked and scowled, narrowing his eyes at me. "Why the hell are you standing there?"
"Waiting on you, duh," I said and shrugged, folding my arms across my chest. I pressed my lips into a thin line and looked him up and down, and Silas hesitated and grabbed the towel tighter in his hand, pulling it off of his head. "Come on, we need to talk."
I silently gestured for Fernos to start walking toward his tent, and Fernos nodded and started to walk that way with me following him, even though Silas stayed put and looked at us with wide eyes and a face filled with nervousness and fear.
"Uh..."
"We aren't saying a word, Silas," I said and shook my head, interrupting him. "Hurry up, and start to follow us. We have to get this done before we can do anything else that might require our immediate attention."
Silas hesitated before he started to jog after us until he caught up and started to walk beside me. "And what do you want to get done?" he asked, trying but failing to keep the hope out of his voice. "What are you talking about? Do you know something?"
I didn't say a word and didn't give him any indication that I knew something, much to the protector's annoyance. I looked this way and that to make sure that we were still safe before I glanced at Silas to see that his brows were furrowed and his mind going a mile a minute.
"Where are you taking me?" Silas asked, finally. "Are you taking me to Cooper? Please, don't take me to Cooper. I am not doing anything nor am I planning anything. Please, believe me and let me go, a-"
"And you need to be careful when you say a Pierce's name," I said, interrupting his ramblings because I didn't want him to get us into trouble and was getting tired of hearing his mouth. "We like to appear when our names are called even if you don't want us there." I flashed him a small smirk and a wink, and his face instantly grew pale with eyes growing wide.
"So you are taking us to see him," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. He gulped and looked around before he looked at me. "Why would you d-"
"I was not going to be taking you to him," I said and shook my head. "He and I are not on speaking terms, and I do not give a rat's ass about him. This is n-"
"And what the hell is going on here?"
Shit...
