"Kyler?" Silas asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Worry and concern filled his voice because there was something in my body language that he did not know and did not like, even though I had no idea what my body language was showing. "Are you ok?"
I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head, moving a hand through my hair and across my face. I couldn't help but feel defeated and hurt about what had happened between Cooper and I. "No," I said and folded my arms across my chest. I cleared my throat while I tapped my finger against my arm, biting the inside of my lip. "I am not ok." I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thinner line. "I will be ok later, though, but I am not right now."
I hope...
I sighed and shook my head before I looked at Fernos to see that he was staring at me with dark eyes filled with something in his eyes that I didn't know how to describe. "Can you lead us to your tent so that we can talk about everything?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied him. "Please?"
Fernos nodded and gestured for us to follow him, and we did so with Silas closer to me than he normally would. He didn't say a word, and his whole body was tense while he looked around to make sure that we were safe and were not followed.
Silas looked around before he looked at me, clearing his throat and nudging my shoulder, and I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. "How did you know that something was going on tonight?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl.
"Can't you wait until we are in the tent before you start asking me questions, please?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, pressing my lips into a thin line and growing annoyed with him. "I don't want others to know what's going on, and I want to talk somewhere that is private."
"I mean, we are alone, and this is killing me because I have a feeling that you know something," Silas admitted, and I couldn't help but bite back a small snort while I slowly nodded because I did know something, even if I wasn't going to say anything. "Why can't you talk to me about it now?"
"Because I am worried about who will hear and tell Cooper what's going on," I said and looked at him before I looked toward the way that we were going. "You are still one of Caroline's protectors, and you need to stay alive and well for her. You also need to stay here with her so that you can protect her."
Silas sighed and moved a hand through his hair and across his face before he shook his head, pursing his lips in annoyance. "I know," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "However, I am sure that I am going to end up dead from e-"
"If you help me and don't lie about what is going on, then I will make sure that you stay alive and safe from Cooper," I said, interrupting him with a shake of my head. "I don't care if it means that I have to die first."
"But you can't die," Silas said and furrowed his brows, biting back a small frown. "I mean, don't you have a life that you need t-"
"Yes," I said, interrupting him while I slowly nodded. "I do have a life that I need to get back to, and I will be getting back to it. I don't plan on dying any time soon, so that is not going to happen at all." I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line. "So I am going to be living and breathing, and I'll be getting in trouble until I leave and go back home."
Silas bit back a small snort while he slowly nodded, and his whole body grew a little relaxed. He looked around before he looked at me. "So are you able to help me?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper while he stared at me with wide eyes filled with nervousness and fear.
"I'll try, but can we please be quiet about this, for now?" I asked, growing annoyed with him because he kept trying to get me to answer his questions. "I again do not want to talk to you about this because of the fact that someone can listen in on us and tell Cooper whatever the hell it is that I want to do with you." I tried but failed to keep the frustration out of my voice, biting back a small growl.
Silas opened his mouth to say something but closed it when I growled at him in warning, and he flinched and bowed his head, submitting to me while I held back an eye roll.
"The next words out of your mouth better not be about what is happening now or in the future before we talk to each other about everything," I said and bared my teeth in warning with a small growl in my voice. "If not, then you better be quiet until we get to where we are going; is that understood?"
Finally, Silas bit back a tired sigh before he slowly nodded. He moved a hand through his hair and across his face before he cleared his throat, and he seemed to sink in on himself while he grew defeated. "Ok," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Do you think that we can pick up our pace so that we can get to Fernos's tent faster, then, please? I promise that I will not ask you anything until we are there."
I didn't say a word and looked at Fernos before I looked at him, biting back a small shrug because I had no idea if Fernos would be fine with that or not.
"Can we, Fernos?" Silas asked and looked at Demon King with a small frown on his face. A look of nervousness and worry filled his eyes, and I had this feeling that he thought Fernos would not do that for us. "Please?"
Fernos turned to look at us with dark eyes that were hard. He didn't say a word before he turned to look away from us and toward the way that we were going, and he started to walk a little faster to his tent, much to the relief of Silas and I because it meant that he was fine with it.
Oh, thank Goddess...
