"What symbols have I placed on your skin?" Fernos asked and narrowed his eyes while he studied me. "Are you going to show me, or do you want to keep it hidden from me?"
"I can show you a few of them," I said. "There is one that I do not know about because he was working on it while my grandmother was making sure that I was dressed and ready to come here because I was in a thin dress and bloodied from the lashings I had received."
"Was I there?" Fernos asked, and I nodded in confirmation. "Then why did I not stop them from doing anything to you?" he asked. "I would have done that for you, or I should have done that for you because I would have considered you as family."
"But it was written that it had to happen," I said and shook my head. "It was the last thing that was needed so that I could come here and help fix things that are broken and set things right, which means I have to help get people out from someone's control and in a safe place like this."
"So does that mean you are wanting to help my mate and me?" Silas asked, and I could hear the hope in his voice. "If so, I would greatly appreciate it. I do not know what I can tell you or not without choking, but I am hoping that you are able to come up with a plan to get everyone out, including those that have basically been hypnotized to do their bidding because that is what is wrong with my mate and sister."
That piqued my interest, and I cocked my head to the side while I studied him. "Can you elaborate on that?" I asked. "How are they being hypnotized to do someone else's bidding? Do you know if it is a Vampire that is doing it, or is it someone or something else?"
Silas opened his mouth to tell me but stopped when his airway seemed to get cut off, and he started to choke again. Tears streamed down his face, and I could tell that he wanted to tell me, especially since if there was a chance that it could help out his mate, then he was going to take it.
"Ok, stop thinking about telling me," I said and shook my head. "I can figure it out later because I know that I will be going there, even though I have no idea when." I looked at Fernos. "Caroline will be going there too, but I want you to focus on getting her out and not me. I will find my own way out, but I need to find some information first and hopefully some allies that are willing to turn on whoever is running the Vampire kingdom while the true king sits "idle" and lets everything happen."
"Ya, you won't be able to trust Vulcan," Silas said and rubbed the back of his neck when he was finally able to breathe again. "He is working for them and has become an Admiral. I do not know what he does, but I can assure you that he isn't on our side any longer. I tried to warn Cooper since I got here, but he wouldn't listen and would get mad at me for saying such a thing. I hope you will listen to me and not trust him."
"That is where you are wrong," I said and pulled out my necklace that was made with his blood. "You are able to trust Vulcan, but he is biding his time for something and someone else." I took the necklace off from around my neck and handed it to him. "Be careful about scraping your hand with it because he will taste blood and try to rescue you, thinking it is me."
Silas furrowed his brows and took the necklace from me before he started to inspect it while he furrowed his brows further together until they touched. "What is this?" he asked and looked it over before he handed it back to me. "Why is it so heavy but also feels so light?"
"It is called a Blood Crystal," I said and took it back from him before I placed it back around my neck. "Vampires are able to create it, and if the host, meaning the holder of the crystal, is in danger, then it is said that with one thought or a swipe of blood, the giver of the blood crystal would know and go rescue them."
"Really?" Silas asked, and I nodded in confirmation. "Do you know why he would be playing as a double agent then, if that is what he is doing? I thought he would have gotten his kingdom back from whoever took it away from him first."
"Unless things have changed and there is a bigger problem that he is trying to face on his own," I said. "I hope that he isn't blaming himself for all of this because he was doing what he needed to do to help out. He's Mom's main Protector, and they have a certain bond that they use to make things work as they should."
"And something went wrong?" Silas asked, and I nodded in confirmation. "What went wrong?"
"I don't know," I said and shook my head. "I know that it has to deal with Fernos and then my cousin, but that is all I know." I looked at Fernos to see that he had a hard look on his face while his eyes were filled with pain and sadness. "Can you elaborate on that for me. please?" I asked. "What went wrong because I know that it has to deal with you and with your son. What part was missing, which ended up with my mother dying and you losing a son? Does it have to deal with me, or is it something else entirely different?"
"That is none of your concern," Fernos said coldly, and my heart broke into more than a few pieces because I wanted to know so I could help out. "As I have stated before, I do not trust you, and I will not answer any of your questions until I do so. Forgive me for being so blunt, but I have to protect myself and my people in a different way, unlike you and your species. All of our lives could be lost if what you are saying is true."
I held back an eye roll and took a deep breath before I released it with a shaky whoosh. I ignored the pain in my heart because I hated how much he was reminding me that he wasn't my grandfather and that I was alone in this until I was able to get him to trust me and trust that I had his best interest at heart, too.
But how was I supposed to do that if he didn't trust me when I said I was the Siran and the one that they had been waiting for all of this time just as much as they were waiting for the next Red Wolf to appear and to come out of hiding herself..?
