I sighed and moved a hand through my hair before I shook my head and cleared my throat. "Do you want me to go ahead and show you my recent mark?" I asked, trying but failing to hide the tiredness in my voice. "If so, I am going to have to face away from you because it is on my arm and in an obscure space that I wouldn't be able to see, even if I looked for it."
"You can," Fernos said and nodded. "I am not going to answer any questions that may come of it. I do hope that you will understand that."
I hesitated before I slowly nodded, and I ignored my heart breaking into more pieces than it had the first time it broke during this conversation. "I do," I said before I stood and started to take off my shirt because I knew that it was hidden by the long sleeved shirt.
"Hey, now, what are you doing?" Silas asked while he started to panic over me taking off my shirt. "Don't do that because I have a mate, and I do not need to see you without your shirt off. What are they going to think?"
"Well, I think you are stupid because I have a sports bra on, and the mark that he wants to see is covered by the shirt that I am wearing. I don't think you will have any problems with your mate because you are seeing this too."
"Do you have other markings you are trying to show him too or think you should show him?" Silas asked and furrowed his brows. "I am thinking that it might be for the best to show him those as well just so that he knows you're telling him the truth."
I paused and cocked my head to the side before I slowly nodded. "Ya, I think there is one mark that should help," I said before I took my shirt off all the way and placed it on the table. "It's on the back of my neck, but I will show that one later because I already know what that one means."
"And have you not been told about the mark that you want me to see?" Fernos asked. "I thought I would have told you about it, or are you still lying about the relationship that you have with me in your timeline?"
"No," I said and shook my head, "and you have no idea how much it is breaking my heart for you to say stuff like that. The reason as to why I wasn't told about that mark was because everything had to happen at once before I was transported here. I know nothing of it, and the only thing that I know about it is that my grandfather completed it before I left to make sure that I was... claimed I guess."
"Claimed as in..?" Fernos paused and trailed off, raising an eyebrow in question. "What are you being claimed as?"
"I am being claimed as family," I replied and shrugged, biting back a small grimace. "I think that is what the marking means, but I do not know if it is the truth or not. If I show it to you, can you let me know what it means and get it in a way that I can see it, please? I want to make sure that I am guessing the mark correctly."
Fernos sighed and nodded. "Ok," he said and rubbed the bridge of his nose before he shook his head. "Where is the mark?"
"Do you mind if I stand and move closer to you so that I can show it to you?" I asked, trying but failing to keep the hesitation out of my voice. I took my shirt off all of the way and started to fiddle with it, growing nervous. "It'd make it much easier than sitting down here while you are further away from me."
Fernos bit back a tired sigh and nodded, and I could tell that he did not like this at all. "Go ahead and stand before you walk over to me. Are you sure that you want me to see this mark? I hope you know that it isn't going to change anything between the two of us."
My heart broke when he said that, but I understood and wasn't going to push him for a relationship that he clearly didn't want, not yet at least. "It's ok, and I know," I said before I stood and walked over to him. "I think you might have a better chance at making all of the markings show at once that were done by you. I am not sure though. My grandfather said it was possible and had done it a couple of times to check."
"Why?"
I shrugged, not knowing the answer to that question. "He never told me the real reason why, so your guess is as good as mine." I paused and licked my lips. "I don't think you will know anyway, so I am not going to ask and see if there is something there."
Fernos grunted but didn't say a word while he watched me walk over to him. His whole body was tense, and I could tell that he did not like the idea of me being connected to him in another lifetime, even though I had no idea why that would matter when there were other things that needed to be worried about.
Has he learned about the Siran too and knew that something was wrong as soon as my mother had died..? Did he not want me to be the Siran and think that someone else would be better suited for that position?
My heart broke when I thought that, but I made sure that my face was blank when I stopped in front of him and turned around so that he could see the mark on my skin that he had done before I came here.
And hopefully, that marking would mean something to him and change the way that he was acting toward me. If not, then there were going to be a lot of questions on my part when I get back to where I needed to be with the man that I considered my grandfather but also a father just like my Dad, who had helped raise me since birth.
Oh, Goddess, please...
