Michael wasn't really ready to take Melody to school today, not after a long night and recording, not to mention what the teacher probably thought about him after he forgot it was a sip day. He could have one mistake, right? It wasn't like he left her out to die on the streets. He grumbled and managed to get him and his daughter ready on time before he had to go back to the studio and write new music and then play it out. "Have a good day, alright sweetie," He said and hugged and kissed her forehead before she ran into the classroom. He wasn't sure what it was, but there was something that she hid when she went in there behind all the happiness. He sighed, letting it go, before going to work.
*At the End of Class*
"Daddy, Daddy! Danny invited me to his birthday sleepover!" She declared as she held up the invite up to him. Michael thought good luck to the parent or parents watching preschool kids. He also thought, 'Shouldn't Melody think boys have cooties at this age?' Then he remembered she never had any woman hanging around. He said it would be a yes. He called the number on the card. "Hello?" A woman answered. "Hi this is Melody's dad." He spoke a bit quickly. "Oh my boy adores her. I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name." She said. "It's Michael," He answered. "Okay great. What do you need? We don't need any gifts." She informed him. "I noticed, I was just wondering if I should have her bring a pillow, blanket anything like that." He mentioned. "Um, no, anything that you think she couldn't sleep without." She said, thinking about it. "Okay see you Friday," He decided to leave it there. "See you on Friday Michael," She hung up.
*End of the Week*
He drove with Melody to Danny's house. Melody sat in her car seat with a full smiles. "You excited Melody?" He asked, looking in the rear view mirror. "Yes!" She giggled as they pulled up in the driveway, since they only lived about five minutes away. "Okay," He said, knowing she was going to be fine. They walked up thick, tall steps to the front door.
A woman with dark brown hair with about tint of red and chocolate eyes answered. "Hi, um, Michael? Melody's dad, right?" She asked. "Yeah, the one and only." He smiled. "Olivia Rab," She shook his hand. "You have my number right? In case anything happens," He nodded. "Hey don't worry if she turns into a bat over night, she will attack." He joked. She laughed, for some reason she had a face similar to Molly Ringwald, the girl from "The Breakfast Club" and "Pretty in Pink" and "Sixteen Candles", her hair even had a similar cut, but a young middle-aged Molly. "I'll take note of that." She smiled.
"Can I see Danny now?" Little Melody asked, getting tired of listening to them talking. "Okay, miss impatient, partyer, but say goodbye to me first." Michael said as he squatted down to her height. "Now give me a big hug and kiss, baby girl." He opened his arms, and Melody gladly entered them and firmly hugged and kissed him. "Good night Daddy, I love you." She said in her high pitch voice. "Good night, I love you too." He said and let go of her. "They're all in Danny's room, up the stairs first door on the left, Melody." She informed her. Olivia moved to the side as Melody scurried into the house.
"You know, I never pictured Melody being called baby girl by her father." She mentioned. Michael shrugged, "She always will be. Just watch over her, I don't want anything bad to happen to her If she has a nightmare, call me, I'll be right over. Make sure she doesn't forget or loose her Spider-man bear. She'll-" "Michael it's one night with other 3 and 4 year olds. You're not sending her off to war or anything. She'll be fine. I'll let you know of she needs anything from home, but I doubt it. He nodded, "It's just her first time being away from home without me or her nanny." Michael commented. Olivia's eyes went soft, she didn't know Melody didn't have a mum. She heard other mums whisper things about one of the students not having a mum, but she just thought Jaycee was her. Michael didn't say it, nor did Danny, but it clicked when Michael didn't say mum. "It's fine, I'll keep an eye on her If she gets home sick I'll call you." Olivia reassured him. "Thanks, good night Olivia." Michael said. "Good night Michael." Danny's mum said before closing the door, while he walked back to his car.
"Alright kids, cake time!" *No, not Calum and Luke 5sos fam* She announced as the four children ran down the stairs then through the living room to take a right to the small dining room and kitchen. It wasn't a big house, but perfect for a son and mother, the father was out of the picture by the time of Danny crawling. That's a huge different story though.
When all the kids were done with the cake, Olivia put a little kid movie as she washed the dishes. Eventually at the end of the movie, all of them were leaning on each other. Olivia smiled, shaking her head before taking a picture: Danny in the middle with Melody's head on his shoulder and his head on hers, Ryan's head on Melody's shoulder, and Vince's head on Danny's shoulder. 'True friends lean on each other,' Olivia thought.
"Alright kiddos time for bed." She said. They all groaned, "Come on, you're not sleeping in the living room." She encouraged as they lazily walked up the stairs. "I'm not sleepy," Vince whined. "You will," Olivia said as she herded the children up the stairs like a sheep dog herding sheep into the pasture. They finally got to the small bedroom with a double bed and dresser to basically fill the room, but enough for a little boy.
Olivia frowned at the room, it was more of a closet than a bedroom. Her boy deserved better than that. The house was a small two story, but it worked and that's all she could afford with him going to a well teaching school.
The small children, now in their pajamas, made them selves at home in the bed. She brought the large blanket up on their small bodies, tucking them in for the night. She smiled as she looked at the children. She always wanted Danny to have siblings. "Good night Danny, good night Vince, goodnight Ryan, good night Melody." She said before turning off the light and closing the door. "Melody," Danny whispered from beside her. "Yeah?" She replied quietly. "C-can you give me a bir-birthday ki-kiss?" He stuttered, not any louder than before. She bit her lip, but nodded. She brought her teeth back in her mouth and puckered her lips and slowly put her lips on his. "Happy birthday," She whispered. Even in the dark room, with only the moonlight from the window bring in light, she could see the tint of pink on his cheeks. "You're my very best friend!" She ensued a bit louder than a whisper. They quietly giggled at each other. He put his finger on her lips. "Shh, good night Melody Anastasia." He whispered, trying not to giggle and kissed her forehead. Other than her father and uncles, Danny felt like home, a home that gave her butterflies in her stomach, but a sweet home. She smiled as she closed her eyes. "Good night Danny William." She said before falling asleep.
After they all woke up, Olivia gave them Dunkin Donuts donuts for breakfast. Vince and Ryan teased the last night kissers."Kiss me Melody kiss me!" Ryan laughed. "Danny marry me, I love you!" Vince added on, he as well laughing. "That's enough you two. Nothing even happened. Stop teasing. Melody, your dad will be here any minute, so let's get you ready to leave." Olivia said. Melody quickly ate the rest of the Long John cream filled donut, and followed her up the stairs.
Not more than a half minute later, Michael knocked on the door. "I got it!" Danny announced and opened the door. Michael squatted down to his height. "I'm looking for Melody," He said. "YOU'RE DAD BLOCKED NOW DANNY!" Vince exclaimed from the dining room. The poor boy blushed, "Come in," He opened the door all the way. "Daniel William Rab, how many times-" Olivia stopped as she saw Michael. "She'll be down soon." She sighed. Michael nodded, "You're Danny right?" Olivia's son nodded. "Happy late birthday." Michael ruffled his hair. "Thank you," Danny said. "They grow up too quickly, don't they?" Olivia commented. "Yeah, last time I checked I was trying to have her sleep in the crib." He said before feeling a huge gasp on his leg. He chuckled as he saw his daughter. "How was she?" He asked. "An angel, not one peep or complaint." Olivia answered. "Okay; baby girl, go say goodbye to your friends and thank Olivia for staying the night." Melody waved to Ryan and Vince, "Bye Vince, bye Ryan." She walked over to Danny, they hugged and a quick peck that made the two boys gag and the parents look at each other with shock. "Melody, I'm putting dozens of locks on your window." He stated. Melody ignored him and said thank you and good bye to Danny's mum before they left.
