Ch2
The truck stopped suddenly and turned down an even darker road, or as far as Lucas was concerned dirt and stone path. It was lined with trees and bushes that slowed their progress more then he liked and scraped by the truck caching in the fabric cover like claws of something determined to hold them back.
In what seem like at least another hour the truck stopped in a small clearing lit only by the head lamps, the moon was full but hidden from view by the trees that would have at one time been well pruned back but it had been many years since anything like that had been done here or anywhere else in Britain.
The man Lucas refused to call by any human name opened the hatch and jumped out then reached in to grab hold of the woman.
"NO" Lucas said with force, there was no way he was having his hands any were near a woman who couldn't fight back "I'm supposed to look after her, I'll take it from here" Lucas tried to sound calmer but feared he failed. The young officer didn't seem to concerned.
"If that's what you want, but trust me, bet she's more then some one like you can handle"
Lucas said no more to this man, and put him very high upon his people he'd like to kill if he could just get away with it list.
Once out and pack on his back Lucas gently pick up the woman, it was far too dark to see her face as he lied it against his shoulder, but he could feel her worm breath upon his neck. She was much liter then he thought, so much so that if need be he could run with her in his arms. She was also worm like any live human and what skin he could touch was soft.
Lucas then followed Ash and Tom as they were lead to an old bunker berried deep below the surface, all that showed was a small steel door, now covered in moss and ferns that Ash quickly pulled away.
"This is as far as we go, and the last you three will see of others until further orders for you come through, only hope I get to deliver them, be nice to see her wake" he then tried to touch her face, but Lucas quickly pulled back and walked through the now open bunker door.
It was clear from Lucas's first step that the bunker had not had fresh air through its corridors for years maybe not even since they had been used for safe holds for the public evacuations when the first bombs hit Europe.
The air was stale and the lights refused to work, and the air only became worse and colder as he walked further down the steps, deeper under the ground and further from the surface from the life he had once had.
"Lucas, what do you want to do now?" For the first time since they had met Lucas herd the soft voice of who he assumed must be Tom though it was strange. Lucas had been born in England, but this was the first time he had ever herd first hand a true stereotypical English accent, as he turned Tom's torch light hit Lucas in the face blinding him "Oh my, I am sorry. Are you okay\/"
"Ya, don't need eyes down here anyway" he would have found it funnier then he did, but by now spending more time in the back of a truck over the past three days then anywhere else he was far past being simply tired.
"Oh yes, Ashley has gone to fix the lighting, so we should be able to see our surroundings soon"
"Right, well help me find a room for her then"
After some time of trolling the dark corridors they found a small bed room to to put her in. Only moments then passed before like magic the lights that ran along the ceiling of the corridor came on, Tom flicked the light switch and the room light came on though it was much dimmer then the ones outside the room and slightly flickered.
The room was dusty, built of gray concrete that was flaking in places and filled with nothing more then an old metal framed bed with only a thin mattress lied across its old rusty springs.
