Ch 27

Lyn watch as Alan lay out a young pregnant girl on the back seat behind her and Ash, simply saying she could drive, he and the others would catch them up, once Lucas had the man out. Tom would check them both out once they were safe.

Lyn nodded in acknowledgment and started the car. There was nothing more she wanted then to get away from the disaster, and from what was coming, so before she even realised, and before she even saw the other car start up Lyn was off.

"Lyn.....Lyn......LYN STOP"

Lyn slammed on the brakes at Ash's shouts. She had no idea how fast she had been driving, in which direction or how far they had come, but after quickly scanning their surroundings, she found that all was dark. They had left the disaster area far behind them, Lyn couldn't even make out any smoke in the distance when she looked in the mirror.

The only light came form the head lamps lighting the rough road in front of the car and glancing off the hedgerow to there left and the edge of wood land to their right.

Ash probably wondered how she had not crashed with such little light to drive at that speed by, but to Lyn until she looked closely through human eyes it all looked perfectly lit.

"Lyn stop...its okay, its been like five minutes, give em chance to catch up. Just calm, okay? Nothings coming, they'll barely be able to keep up"

Lyn nodded and pulled the car from the road, leaving the lights on so Lucas could see where they were. She hadn't meant to worry, or upset Ash, but all she wanted was to get away and that was the only thing that filled her mind.

It wasn't so much, what she had done to save the girl and the man, but she now suddenly remembered what she was capable of, and though knowing she was driving and had to be careful along the dark overgrown country roads, all that kept flashing thought her mind, were images of what she had done, what she had destroyed.

Then came a scream that broke Lyn from her painful thoughts, so suddenly, so harshly she nearly shot through the car roof.

Both her and Ash spun round quickly, to find the young girl no longer lied asleep were Alan had placed her, but instead curled as small as she could make herself behind Lyn's seat, staring petrified up at Ash.

"Hay, no, don't, its okay, give me your hand, we wont hurt you"

The young girl looked up at Lyn as Ash spoke, to begin with she had thought there was no one more then just him. Ash held his hand out towards the girl, only an inch, or so away from her own hand.

"We're alone too, sorry about the uniform, but we're not with the army, not anymore, we just want to get you safe"

"My dad, he was with me" her voice was quite, yet behind, seemed to seep a determination to get answers for what ever had happened, to her and her father.

Ash quickly looked to Lyn. "There's two, Alan said remember?" she answered quickly, it was true there was no reason to go on about the subject.

"See, its okay, hes safe and with our friends, they'll catch up, Lyn here just wanted to get you out of there so drove a little fast, but he'll be with you soon"

The girl smiled and gently took hold of Ash's hand, so he could help pull her free of the foot well and back in to the back seat. Lyn watched, though Ash had changed very much since they first met, she had never seen this side of him, a caring, loving, truly helpful side that she wished she had always known existed.
