Ch 37
Lyn knocked, waited for no more then a few moments and then knocked again.
She knew her own inpatients would only get Ash more anxious then he already must be, but the human part of her was over thrown by the computerised schedule Alan had programed into her.
Alan wanted to make sure that what need to be done today stayed on a steady unstopping path and that nothing was forgotten in a rush to get Ash through the day as quickly as possible.
Tom though had disagreed saying for now there was little else to do, so making Ash's foot top priority, was what mattered now, what was left of the bomb could wait. So in Tom's mind that meant the operation would simply take as long as it took and so would his recovery, and no schedule could be planed for something that would simply just take time. Rushing would only cause problems they didn't need or weren't equip for.
Lyn understood Alan's mind, he had lived for years on a very tight schedule, even her own operations where that way and making Ash's that way too made Alan feel that not only himself, but all of them were in charge of their future, and only them.
So Lyn had let Alan program the minute by minute schedule into her late the night before and it had woken her just over an hour ago. Promptly ten minutes was given to her to get ready before it had then informed her to wake all, but Ash so they could prepare without his worried interference.
Lyn had done as told by the little voice in her head up till now, gotten everyone up, made a complete checklist of what was needed and went through it twice to make sure everything was in place, then set to work not the task of gently waking Ash without fuss or behaving in anyway worried about his outcome, as Tom had asked, before he set to work himself, sterilising the kitchen to the best of his and Alan's ability.
So now she stood, with clock ticking within and the voice reminding her that the patent was overdue by almost eleven minutes.
"Ash" Lyn stopped herself when she herd, not just the inpatients, but also the growing anger in her voice, she took a a deep and calming breath before she spoke again "Ash are-"
"I'm fine" the door was wrenched open "I'm ready, and don't tell me I'm late I......I...."
"No it's okay, its just this schedule Alan programed into me, pissing me off really, I'll disable it"
"Lyn, Lyn" Ash dropped whatever thoughts he had for himself and gently took Lyn by the shoulders and shook her. There was something wrong, she just stopped and was now lost somewhere in space.
"There we go, you okay?" for a short time Lyn had lost track of exactly what was going on in front of her, wile she sent a small signal from one place in her brain to the other where the schedule device was kept and disabled it. Once completed her vision came back and she was once again as human as she could ever hope of being.
"You just went all funny"
"Funny, I don't remember making a joke" Lyn could see by the over serious stair Ash was beginning to drill her with, that it was no time for jokes, but she thought that if only to take his mind off the impending few hours that she would at least give it a try.
"That's not what I meant, you just stood there starring into space" Ash now folded his arms clearly pretending she had made no attempt what so ever to distract his mind from worry over himself, or worse over her, but all the same she tried again.
"Don't be silly I can't see space from here, and anyway I'm not even looking up" yet still not even the slightest glimmer of a smile, so she gave up "But if you were concerned about what just happened, it was just me disabling that annoying voice, that was telling me that now your almost fifteen minutes late for your operation prep"
