Ch 3
The door opened slowly and Tom walked in as quietly as he could, the room was now completely dark which he felt odd about, it was past eight in the morning and he new they were underground but it just didn't feel right and he had no idea how he was meant to get used to it. His job had never been anything like that of Lucas and Ash's.
Tom had once been a medic, but after showing great promise some suited men that had never given a name or said who they worked for approached him. They said that they would find his family and make sure they were kept safe and well away from the war all he had to do was work for them wile staying in the army. Tom was allowed to choose which ever medical profession he wanted as long as it was on the list they gave him and then they trained him up. Apart from that he was told nothing else, he spent the past few years in class rooms and labs nothing like this, at least not until now, not until what he had been chosen for was finally explained to him.
"You can turn the light on, I'm awake" Lucais's voice came from the darkness so Tom did as told. He found Lucas lied next to the still sleeping woman. "I couldn't leave her alone, and I was far to tired to sort out my own bed anyway"
"Of course sir, that is nothing to do with me. May I ask, Sir did it work?" he nodded towards the woman with a cheeky little smile, that once again he hoped Lucas wouldn't notice, but when he did and simply smiled back Tom relaxed some what telling himself once again that he was no longer under the supervision of the corporation who sent him.
"Yes, it worked" Lucas tried hard not to smile again as he felt blood rush to his cheeks " But she didn't say much, just told me she needed to re-charged, and asked if I would stay. Also whats all this sir crap all of a sudden?"
"Sorry you seemed to tired for formalities last night, but as you are in command of her, plus a higher rank then I, I simply thought-"
Lucas quickly cut him off "No, no were all the same down here, just looking out for each other and doing what we were sent here to do. So no chain of command, we work together, I'm Lucas, and your Tom simple s that, plus she's a person and therefor I have no command over her either"
"Very well sir...uh...sorry Lucas. Well any way its very good to hear about her, I'm sure she'd get upset if she woke up alone in this rather, unsavory room. May I ask are you okay?"
Lucas looked up to find Tom now stood over the bed and was instantly taken in by the pair of shockingly vivid blue eyes before him, he had been far to tired the night before to take much of the man in. The concern in his voice worried Lucas so he supposed it was better to get what he knew out sooner rather then later.
"I know her, or at least I knew her once, anyway" Lucas pulled his eyes away and looked over the woman he once knew.
"What?" Tom sat on the end of the bed with concern now gone replaced by surprise which was fully expected "Do they know you knew her, is that why your here?"
"I don't think so" Lucas sat wiping his hands over his face, and rubbing the sleep form his eyes " I just went to school with her, haven't seen her since we were sixteen, the day we left school, so they can't know" shock just hit Lucas like a blow to the head, what if some how, someone new of their past and planed all of this? But then what for? What part did he have to play in her life now, and was it much greater then simply making sure she was safe?
"I'll get you some tea yes?" and with that Tom slipped out not registering Lucas sudden look of shock as anything more then him trying to get his head around what would happen next, as for Tom it was all he could think about.
*
Tom was gone for now, but Lucas fingered that he wanted more information but thought it would be best to wait a wile for any more questions.
