Ch 15

"Thank God" Lucas had shaken her awake and now pulled her quickly to her feet "I thought I lost you, we have to get out, Alan says he's got a car he's gone to get it started" Lucas then stopped pulling Lyn towards the door as he caught sight of Mats body and his voice dropped "What do we do with him?"

"Leave it, the body will burn if whats left of the computer doesn't detect life for over ten minutes, but he set the bomb I have to shut it down"

"How? And how didn't he know your chip was fried"

"Like this, and maybe it was something Henry thought best to keep between him and Alan" Lyn limped over to the desk on which the computer and bomb sat, next to both Mat had placed his laptop which the program to detonate the bomb was already running, on the screen flashed an icon a single red rose with a twenty four hour clock under it counting down.

"Oh shit, he knows"

Lyn said this under her breath and quickly closed the lid the icon told her something she neglected to think about before, Mat was sending a message to 'The Rose Building' straight to Henry, he would now know Mat had found her, that she was no longer the Lyn that had left eight months beforehand, that she was being helped, that Alan was one of the ones helping her and that she was pregnant there had to be something she could do, but there was no time now as soon as Henry got the message he would blow the lab and building himself. it would destroy nothing more then the block it stood on, but at lest all information they contained would be gone. She laid her hands on top of the laptop and the same electric blue pulse though much smaller shot down her arms through her hands and into the computer frying it stopping, the clock on the bomb dead.

"Best to bring it as well, as this" Lyn looked to the core, her fingers still tightly wrapped around it "Ash may need it, and if not it should be properly disabled"

"Right come on then, Lyn, LYN"

The darkness finally took its hold, but as it wasn't death so Lyn let it come, she couldn't walk even if she'd of wanted to and falling into Lucas's arms were she knew she'd be safe, was the last she could remember.

Lucas carried Lyn into the cold night air, which, for the fast approaching winter seemed warmer then he excepted it was just the wind itself blowing like ice chips at his sweat covered face, that caused occasional shivers to shoot through his body, as the sweat running down his back chilled him to the bone, but with the worry over Lyn and the adrenaline of trying to save her still coursing through his body it bothered him little.

Lucas didn't have to walk far before a light blue Volvo pulled up right in front of him and Alan push open the passenger door.

"What happened?" he snapped making Lucas feel as if Alan wished anyone, but him to have been left with Lyn.

"Don't know ,she stopped the bomb, then passed out"

"Lay her in the back quick, let me see" his voice had calmed slightly, but he started to look around as if waiting for something far more sinister to begin.

Lucas did as told and watched as Alan pulled yet another cable from Lyn's arm and connected it to a black laptop like device only the size of his hand and flipped it open.

Lucas couldn't make out the odd information that flashed across the screen, but it seemed to ease Alan which helped to ease his own nerves.

"She used the pulse to disable the computer it was to much for her right now, her body has to get used to a new peace of hard wear, it shorted her out, but with some rest she'll be just fine. We have to go and now, she just told me Henry knows Mat and the bomb are gone, he set the self destruct" Alan then freed Lyn and his own computer from each other, replaced Lyn's cable and pushed his computer into his blazer pocket.

"That means?"

"The building, lab and every thing for about a mile wont be here much longer"

"Shit" Lucas climbed into the front set, pulled the door shut behind him and climbed over into the back passenger seat, not thinking it would have taken much less time to get out of the front and in the back.

Alan didn't speak as he pulled away and started to race down the empty street and Lucas didn't really care he breathed a sigh of relief as at least for now it was over. Lyn had done what she came to do, she truly was stronger then he wished to believe.

Would it ever be truly his job to look after her?

Lucas had thought wrong though it wasn't over, a rumble shook the ground and unbroken windows from buildings around them showered the car in glass, and for a few moments that was it. But as Lucas climbed back over the front seat to look in the mirror. Fire was all it reflected.

"FASTER" he screamed spinning in his seat to look through the back windscreen, Alan simply looked in the mirror and started to accelerate. The ball of fire though kept getting closer, no matter how much and how loud he screamed the car just wouldn't go any faster. Lucas couldn't imagine dieing now, letting Lyn die now, all she'd done would be lost forever, then suddenly her eyes shot open.

"STOP" Lyn screamed and shot up to sit staring out the back windscreen, Alan slammed the brakes on sending Lucas flying backwards into the dashboard forcing the air from his lungs.

"What are you doing? Go, go" Lucas tried to shout, but nothing more then gasped words left his mouth. Alan didn't listen, he seem to undoubtedly trust Lyn and turned off the car there was nothing Lucas could do but watch as the wall of fire roared ever closer.

Lyn then jumped from the car and without thinking Lucas raced after her ignoring Alan's calls for him to stay put.

"Lyn stop, what are you doing?"

Lyn was climbing on top of the car and refused to acknowledge him so he followed ignoring the extra pain it caused his back. "Lyn, LYN LOOK AT ME" Lucas took her by the shoulders and shook, it was harder then he wanted but his fear and anger was forcing its way through

"Saving you, saving the core, saving our..our" She looked tired, more tired then he thought anyone could possibility get without going crazy

"Our what?"

"Nothing, just promise to catch me when I fall" with that Lyn kissed him quickly on his cheek and stood, so again he followed.

Lyn took a gentle hold of his hands and closed her eyes just before the flames engulfed them. Lucas slammed his eyes shut, squeezing them tight waiting for the burning pain to start, but it never came so he slowly opened his eyes. Fire completely surrounded them, but it was over a foot away from them, from the whole car. Both him, Lyn and the car were encased in a sky blue orb of light that the flames and flying debris merely danced upon and bounced off of. Lucas couldn't help, but watch, it was the most amazing yet petrifying thing he had ever been in the middle of.

On the outside the fire created and deafening roar, but the inside was oddly quiet as if lost in the eye of a storm, then just as suddenly as it all began all was over. The street was virtually gone, tarmac melted, street signs and lamp posts ripped away, buildings lefts as shells still burning on the inside, but they and all that had been in Lyn's orb was just as it had been before the fire passed. He looked down Lyn was slightly swaying so he pulled her into his chest wrapping his arms around her. Lucas then lifted her head so he could see her eyes, but they were no longer bright and full of life, all they seemed too be was empty and cold so he kissed her, fully expecting her to pull away, she didn't.

"Your amazing"

"I don't feel to amazing right now" her whisper was weak, Then she closed her eyes as she once again fell into his arms.

please tell me what you think, tym xx
