Ch 35
"Does it hurt?"
Lyn took her eyes from the black car in front for a moment to glance at Lucas, then quickly returned them when she saw the worry in his eyes.
Lyn had asked only how long it had been since leaving the house it had been before him and Alan were picked up. Lyn knew he wasn't up to talking about what had happened during there time on the now obliterated base, and she also knew that he would think it of little importance to the events that took place in the short time it took her to rescue them.
But now, even that was overthrown by his feelings of her own injury.
"No, not now anyway" Lyn's answer was blunt, but the truth, and she forced a smile trying to soften her words, hoping it was enough to reassure him, but all it did was result in him worrying more. He said nothing of it, but the extra look he gave her leg told Lyn, he wanted more then anything to be able to be stronger then she was.
Lucas was injured and she knew he believed that because he was nothing more then human her own injuries would take a back seat to that of his own and Alan's.
Lucas was right though, but not only for the reason he was thinking. Yes they were both weaker then her, they couldn't heal anywhere near as fast and they couldn't know exactly what was injured and just how much without a doctor.
Where as her on the other hand could, she could simply ask her body to check, and what exactly she needed to to to make things right, especially now she was up and running properly.
And just how much of that Lucas had worked out for himself Lyn didn't know, Lyn knew he'd ask anything he didn't already know, but what he didn't know was why she would insist that they were seen to first, and that was her fear, if they were hurt far beyond what Tom could patch up and their own bodies could handle to heal alone they could become sick, more so and quicker then she had, and now, this time Tom wouldn't be able to put things right. Lyn didn't need things sterile to be cut open, she would only get sick if she was unable to work at full capacity like when she had fallen, but they didn't have a body that could be rebooted. They would simply die, where as for her, as soon as the bullet was removed Tom could bandage it if he wished more for his own well being, but she would repair herself, leaving little trace of what had happened.
"Your lying"
"Why would you think that?"
"You were shot, the bullets still in your leg, your lying"
"No, it did at first, almost like it would you, when I was hit, but now, nothing more then a new bruise, and once its out it will heal and much faster then your injuries" Lyn didn't look to lucas as she spoke, though she could feel his eyes on her. He knew she was lying but she wouldn't let him win.
"If you say so" Lucas didn't sound convinced, but he didn't press the matter "Tom will fix me up and the with some proper sleep I'll be as good as new"
Lyn nodded though she refused to give Lucas a smile. she knew he so longed to see and instead just continued to drive. He really thought her bullet hole was worse then what had happened to him.
*
The sudden jolt caused by the car coming to a halt from great speed woke Lucas, but Lyn didn't care, she had long since lost track of how much time had passed sine they had begun their drive back to Ash, and she had only checked the clock once to try and judge how long Lucas had been asleep since his last words to her.
"Lyn for fuck sake" Lucas spoke through clenched teeth, from which hid a well of pain as he pushed himself up from the dashboard and holding his ribs with the other hand.
