Ch 25
Lucas ran down the corridor hand tight around Lyn's pulling her close behind him. He screamed for the others as he burst through the kitchen door.
Lucas had woken that morning to find Lyn already up, so lay watching her get dressed.
Lucas had not spoken to Lyn again until the night before, but all the same he did come back to say sorry about the fight and how he had spoken to Alan.
Lucas had spent much of the afternoon with Alan in the kitchen, mostly going over very basic information about Lyn to which he found he did most of the talking about the time he and Lyn had spent in school together. she had not seemed to mind their talking through dinner and their evening meal, as she had spent her time talking over the bomb with Ash, and then left for a few hours to help him.
When Lucas finally got time to be alone with her it was the early hours of the morning and though he talked as he'd promised she spoke every little then excepted his apology by pulling him into bed, said sorry herself and nothing more after that.
Wile pulling on her second shoe Lyn suddenly stopped. Lucas had at first panicked and tried to ask what was wrong and though only moments went by before she answered him, it felt more like he was stood a life time staring in to her vacant eyes.
She had seemed lost in deeper thought then any normal person could ever achieve, then as suddenly as it happened she came back and once again her eyes were full of life killing the panic inside his pounding heart.
For a short time Lyn acted as if she couldn't workout what had happened, but soon enough she quickly started to pull on the rest of her clothes and rushed Lucas to do the same, shouting at great speed that the Sweepers were coming and they had to go. Lucas had never had the time to ask how long they had, before she thrust his pack into his arms and told him to run.
All three men ran into the kitchen behind them, but Lyn didn't let them ask any questions just started shouting orders.
Lucas found himself quite impressed by Lyn's actions he knew her behavior was the cause of information Alan had once downloaded into her. Henry would have considered the ability to organize and take control under serious pressure a great asset, but what drove her most now was fear. She couldn't let Henry or any other corporation get her or their baby, Lyn also seemed very concerned about the three men she now saw as her family.
Lucas knew before this there was no one she had and Alan was the only person she had any real closeness to, since the start of the war, whom she had to leave behind. And although at first she would have gladly left them at any moment, they were all she had, so she would to do all she could do to protect them too.
"Lucas" Lyn's voice broke though his thoughts "Don't just stand there go, get our bags and help Ash with his things, then I need your help back in here"
Lucas left and did as Lyn had told him, though if there was more she had said before calling his name, he would have to admit he just didn't listen.
Outside all was calm the thought of something racing towards them searching for Lyn was herd to believe, but their things were packed if they had to go, everything was nearly ready, just back to get Ash and they could all leave.
He had spent so much time worrying over the past few days he had forgotten just how injured Ash was. Tom was able to do little with his broken foot, but tightly bind it in a makeshift splint. But still as Lucas noticed wile he helped Ash put one boot on in his room, his broken foot had ballooned to twice the size of his other and putting weight on it was almost impossible. So Lucas just stuffed the other boot in the top of Ash's pack.
