Ch 14

The lab door opened silently as all doors did in Henry's buildings, but Lyn would never have noticed if it had of made a noise, her mind was to consumed on finding Mat. The Lab was just like the one in 'The Rose Building" the one where she had spent so much of the past five years. After signing her life way to Henry she had been sent away from 'The Rose Building' and to London, to the lab under the ground where she now stood. There Lyn had spent her first year of life belonging to him, in this lab was where Lyndon had been killed and Lyn had been born.

Now the room looked very little like how she remembered. It was now the one of her nightmares, dark and cold, empty yet concealing more secrets then imaginable.

The work benches that at one time held rows of pristine bottles and test tubes, computers and experiments were now empty, Mat had already been through. Lyn could see even though the destruction that when people left for the last time it was in a great hurry, there were still little items around the room that showed evidence of the human life that once worked down there. Pictures of friends and family, little novelty items bought as gifts, mugs of long drunk tea and coffee. If she had walked in only ten minutes sooner she would have seen it as it once was, or even caught Mat in the act of destruction, all Lyn could think that from somewhere inside, Mathew had pushed his way through after seeing the place where he was killed, and he snapped.

All that was left now were the places on the once white and and once sterilized work benches where experiments and other objects only minutes beforehand had stood stopping the thick layer of dust that now coated everything from forming, leaving odd shapes of white dented in the gray snow.

The floor crunched as Lyn walked through the lab, she knew Mat wouldn't be back this was nothing more then a quick stop in his oh so important mission, and he'd done all he wanted to the room that took his life, before it was totally wiped from the face of the Earth.

Suddenly the emergency power flicked on, and the silence filled only by the slow cracking under Lyn's feet was gone, now filled completely by a dull hum from above. The room was then bathed with a pale cool blue light but it was no where near bright enough to fill the lab with the light she remembered.

The first time Lyn had walked into this room if she had not of known better she would have believed it to be the gates of heaven, the brightness almost blinded her, everything was so white and clean, seemingly untouched and perfect just like the way she would one day become.

A loud pop signaled a plug socket on the wall above Lyn's head blowing, its old wires being unable to take the serge of power bringing the six floors of labs to life once again. Wires sparked and exploded showering Lyn in a rain of golden fire works, but there was nothing she needed from this room, she came for Mat, for his core, nothing else.

Turning to leave, something from behind a set of double doors across the lab crashed as it fell to the floor. Lyn spun on the spot, it wouldn't be Mat, he'd never be careless enough to drop something, or do anything in fact to give his position away. Lyn had no choice, if it was someone using the lab as a safe hold and Mat found them they'd be dead or would simply be blown to dust in a matter of minutes, so caring little about making her self know, Lyn ran back across the Lab, who ever it was, clearly was hiding from what they had herd Mat do and may even need help.

Lyn quickly pushed the doors open and stepped inside the room, At that moment she was stopped dead in her tracks. The room was identical to hers in 'The Rose Building' though all purples manly lilac which the walls were painted, and the most stunning four poster bed beautifully made up in purple and lilac silks and lace stood in the middle of the room. Her book shelf though was empty, the books like her after a year had been moved to Scotland, to 'The Rose Building'. What was in the room there before she had used it was all there was. Lyn could remember nothing of this room, or what went on behind its closed doors, the only reason she knew it was once hers was because she was the only female made, and clearly someone had wanted her next room to be the same, which was the only room she remembered. Maybe it was done in the hope of keeping her more human, or maybe just to make the move easier on her, but it mattered little now. All she knew was that someone loved her enough to want her to have somewhere that felt like a home. Mat had never had a room like this that she could remember, not that a room for him would be so girly, but she new his room was smaller and from what her memory told her he had demanded for it to be like the rest of the building, containing nothing but what he would actually need.
